We've taken that into account...since our permit will not allow us to shut down the beach access, we've placed the venue almost at the end of the beach. Considering the fact that the Sand Highway starts approximately 1 mile before our event venue, and that is where roughly 85% of folks actually choose to access the dunes, the only traffic we should have to deal with will be a much smaller amount of actual campers getting to and from their sites (should be mainly our group). We felt the exposure of 65,000+ spectators to the sport was well worth the added site management for our staff...if you've been there, then you'll know, there is no such thing as a bad seat in the house there
The fact of the matter is: each venue offers it's own unique challenges, but the payoff for not only our competitor's, but our spectators will be much greater than what the Grand Avenue venue afforded. Better, bigger, cleaner surf, on average - due to proximity and exposure, a much quicker clearing of any marine layers which might crop up (last year the Grand Avenue venue had some serious marine layer until well after noon - a breeze doesn't access that area of the bay until later in the day), the ability to comingle with our counterparts at the WORCS races easily, exposure to a much larger crowd of spectators than the north beach entrance, the convenience for all to access the site....believe me when I say we very carefully considered the pros and the cons, and the new venue far outshines the old one.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all be able to relax, enjoy watching our Pilot's performances, and play in the surf in the waters immediately adjacent to the competition site. Our staff of highly trained and experienced event experts will deal with the challenges...just come enjoy the ride =)
