Surfriding Ignition preferences

I will start out by saying I don't plan on running a total loss. I fully understand the benefits of total loss but I mostly ride surf and don't need a 1000-1200cc total loss engine to pull off sick moves and I don't like the hassle of a non charging system or how vulnerBle it is to salt water. With that being sai I am interested in peoples feedback and opinions about using an MSD enhancer, Advent T3 or an ATP epic CDI. I know how they all operate but I want feedback from people who have run them and have a fair comparison to eachother.
Thanks

Another thing to note: I've heard of people successfully running a Jetnetics flywheel with an Epic ignition. I'm also interested in flywheel combinations and opinions.

I've had the same enhancer sinse 2000 , and during that time I've seen dozens of other types of ignitions fried in other people's skis. You do need to have a good stator. That is usually the problem when the ski quits firing .

I think most will agree that the enhancer/lightened fly-w is proven reliable and performs pretty good for the cost, but I think this is a good topic/request...I would also like to hear the latest feedback about reliability and performance of Advent T3 or an ATP epic...

Yeah I definitely like the proven and simple power of an enhancer with lightweight flywheel but have never ridden a ski with an advent or epic or had any riding buddies that ran them so I come here to seek knowledgable opinions from others. I like knowing that 2 people have been running the same enhancer since 99/2000 because I bought a ski with an enhancer that needed "a carb rebuild". I put a stock CDI in it and it ran mint. I asked the guy how old the enhancer was and he said it was 1-2 years old and never seen salt. I've heard of other people having issues with enhancers in saltwater but maybe I just talked to the wrong people.

The enhancer has proved itself to be the only reliable ignition out there. Its in and away you go. its either total loss or an enhancer no in-between in my mind

Have you tried the other ones or are you just going with the flow of other peoples opinions? What examples do you have of the advent or epic not being reliable? I understand the enhancer bolts in and does it's job and needs no adjusting but it's a generic ignition curve with 6 degrees timing advance at low RPM then stock timing at higher RPM for to resist detonation. The Advent and Epic have custom ignition maps designed to suit your engine and your riding needs.

If you do research here and on PWCToday (If site is working) you can find alot of info on the Advents. They are very hit or miss. As far as the Epic's go at first I never heard anything bad about them, nothing but good reviews, lately I remember coming across comments about intermittent problems with them. I have not kept up with then lately to really give any good insight. The Enhancer does have adjustable rev limiter, so you do need to adjust it correctly, I would not crank it all the way wide open. Also, setting your static timing along with the Enhancer can give you some extra performance. I use to run with some slight advance but have gone back to stock settings for reliability. I had a cylinder go bad and chased gremlins, during that time I reset the timing, could probably adjust it some now and be ok.
just my 2 pennies.

I started with an enhancer, which worked fine for 3 years (still have it). Now I have an OEM lightened FW and an EPIC. It is a nice setup for surf. No problems at all for me. It was setup and never touched since.
I ride 100% salt...

I would consider going with the FLAME, even for surfriding.

TBM flywheel and enhancer on my 865

Lightened 62T flywheel and enhancer on my 61X in my fixed steer right now

Bulletproof.

You got any "dead" enhancers? I'll buy em.

every epic that has come thru this region has proved to be junk....think they have all been removed and replaced

buddy had a brand new advent he couldnt get to work, they had some ones that were hit or miss but difficult as well to set up....

pro digital or enhancer is the only tickert....

or a modified stocker with rev limit removed works pretty well too!

I went from a pro-tec modded box to the Epic and the difference is like night and day. It was like going from a stock exhaust to a bpipe.. I have had zero problems with it and the dual curve thing is kinda nice to play around with in the big waves. I'm not worried that the epic will fail but if you have any problems you can always send them to ATP for a flash or they will test them to help eliminate some of those brutal electrical problems. It's for sure one of the mods I am most happy with

Good to know, thanks for the feedback! Are you running a stock flywheel?

dont do it

Hahaha I appreciate your advice bro... I'm just looking for good feedback at this point. For the price of an Epic I can buy an enhancer and a lightweight flywheel which would be hard to beat with a custom ignition curve. I also have multiple skis and could buy like 2 enhancers for the price of an epic but I'm still very interested in weighing out my options... Even if it's just to have the knowledge at this point so keep the feedback coming guys
