if your going to wavedaze you can try an EPIC if your thinking of going that way i will have some with me and your welcome to throw one it to try before you buy

some guys in florida did have issues with the EPICs, i wasnt involved so cant say what the issue was

I ran the Flame TL last year and loved it, the Flame was in the skis that got first and second at world AM finals in 2011, Pierre Maxient is running one as is the whole crew at seaworld in australia

comes down to preference and if you like the programming ability of the ATP ignition systems

Hahaha I appreciate your advice bro... I'm just looking for good feedback at this point. For the price of an Epic I can buy an enhancer and a lightweight flywheel which would be hard to beat with a custom ignition curve. I also have multiple skis and could buy like 2 enhancers for the price of an epic but I'm still very interested in weighing out my options... Even if it's just to have the knowledge at this point so keep the feedback coming guys

Epics are $395

MSD Enhancers are $341 http://www.atlanticjetsport.com/index.php?l=product_list&c=335

I ran MSD enhancer for a couple years prior to changing with a stock flywheel and TBM flywheel, never had any issues

My vote is for the Enhancer and stock flywheel with 2-3mm of advance thrown in for good measure.

I have run Enhancers in 5 different skis with zero issues yet. I once replaced a faulty RIVA CDI with an enhancer and it worked for about 4 more rides before the stator failed. The key to a solid ignition system is a good solid stator and that vote goes to JSS.

I run a TBM lightweight flywheel and an EPIC in my SS865 and have had zero issues yet.

Thanks for the great offer Steve! I appreciate your unbiased opinion without the pushy sales tactic :)
Enhancers can be found much cheaper than their msrp but I also thought the Epic was $100 more than that for some reason. I looked on ATPs website today and I'm interested in more info about the adjustable timing curves... how would I go about getting new timing curves? How many can be stored and how do you toggle between the different ones? Is there a list of commonly used curves? Can I make my own or do you send a request for them?

You can have ATP make curves for you. They also come with a couple preset. You can buy a programming cord and make your own curves on a laptop.

Yeah the website says it comes preset with a couple and it says you can have them load different ones for you or buy the cable/software to do your own which is actually why I'm interested in it... I like the adjustability of it and like doing things myself.

Alright guys I know the MSD enhancer/lw flywheel is a proven setup, that's not news to me. The first post says I want to hear from people who have run the advent/epic and can compare to an enhancer. At this point I just want feedback on the epic and advent.

How long have you run this? Is it saltwater or freshwater use?

Almost 2 years now with the Epic and TBM and 99% surf riding but admittedly I don't have the hours on my ski that others do.

The draw towards EPIC and Advent is of course the adjustable curves which is a big feature. Now that I have mine dialed in I don't play with it much but its nice to know I can if I ever make any big changes to my setup. I have 2 curves in mine so I can tame it down for the surf and then crank it up for flatwater days.

If you are planning to do mods over a long period and want an ignition that will grow and adapt as you go then the EPIC will fit the bill perfectly.

I don't recommend Advent personally because I got stuck with a bad one a couple years back. At this point it sounds like Advent and Epic have about the same reputation. They work and work extremely well for a small group of people but others struggle. When we were doing testing we figured we had it down to a faulty voltage regulator but then it got fried right before we could test our theory.

A lot of us travel quite far to ride good surf and the idea of driving to wrench sucks. While the epic offers some features that the msd doesn't, its hard to argue with something that works. I will run the epic till it dies and then probably buy another.

Yeah I definitely like the proven and simple power of an enhancer with lightweight flywheel but have never ridden a ski with an advent or epic or had any riding buddies that ran them so I come here to seek knowledgable opinions from others. I like knowing that 2 people have been running the same enhancer since 99/2000 because I bought a ski with an enhancer that needed "a carb rebuild". I put a stock CDI in it and it ran mint. I asked the guy how old the enhancer was and he said it was 1-2 years old and never seen salt. I've heard of other people having issues with enhancers in saltwater but maybe I just talked to the wrong people.

Big Kahuna and Legdragger: do you ride freshwater or salt?

You rode my Rickter at wavedaze that was a Epic and TBM flywheel with a limited 701. I cant speak for the long term but it has been ridden maybe 20 days with only one day not in salt. I am impressed its hardest hiting limited setup I ever rode. But I do hear about the problems people have had running the EPIC I am hoping that I have a magical unit that never wants to be a problem. If i have a problem when I go ride tomorrow I am going to be pissed that I opened my mouth. If the EPIC is working it is a pretty powerful setup with it have the ability to run custom curves and even switch between 2 curves with out taking the hood off. That being said if it doesn't run then it is useless and the only curve it will be making is as it flys into the trash as i will go back to a enhancer that has never been a problem in 10 years I have been running it in my RN.

Oh awesome! Good to know (Kevin?), I didn't know you had an epic in your Rickter...

Kevin yes. This year there is alittle more under the hood and a steve-uk and QJS have sent me curves to try. So at least there is curves for you to compare your ideas to before you load it.

sorry if it came over as a pushy sales tactic as that wasnt the intention

i sell both ignitions

as there are some major differences between the different ignitions which is why i offered that you can try one, if you decide to go with an epic there are also other places to purchase

my opinion is seen as biased only because i have used both systems and for me its obvious which is the better bang for your buck

Steve I wasn't being sarcastic about that comment. You gave me facts about both and you even said an enhancer is a good system instead of just saying "buy the Epic" with no reasoning. Sorry if you thought I was being sarcastic but I did appreciate your advice

no probs man, i try to be inpartial, and do keep many comments to myself about some of the "epic problems", but becuase i sell the products people see it as a sales pitch, im a rider first and foremost, if something has problems why would i want to sell it and then have to deal with all the problems?

out of all the epics i have sold, there were only two that had issues, both were sent back to atp, there was not a problem with either, both were battery issues, you do need to run a good battery, once they put a good battery on the problem went away

The epic has also been updated recently (within the last couple weeks) and hits harder than it did, also over the years ATP have changed the sotware to be more forgiving to less than perfect electrical systems

The fact that the epic has the ability to be flashed means that you can always have the software updated to the latest version so the EPIC will continue to be be improved

i have ran both, i have a buddy with the advent also, seem the advent is a little more complex to program, you can just switch between curves while riding

i offer local guys the opportunity to try one if they are unsure, anyone who has hasnt given me it back....

My offer stands, if your at wavedaze, have some time and want to try one then you are welcome to try one

I think everyone going to Wavedaze should get Steve to fit an EPIC so they can try it.....It will stop him getting bored and he's always looking for an excuse not to ride anyway.:mischievous:
