What do you do when you get thrown out of your local riding spot because of your excessively loud x-metal waterbox? Will the OEM box go back in? I've never heard of anyone having a problem securing the x-metal box. Seems like a solution looking for a problem to me.

I never had a problem with noise on my ski. The law here in NJ is 90db at idle from 5 ft away.. That would have to be one loud jet ski. There is no problem securing the box but most people need to add foam to the bottom to get it to sit nice and not have the edge of the box rubbing into the hull. This option will be a bolt in affair.. You simply remove your metal brackets and place this piece in there and then bolt the brackets back down. It makes for a nice secure and snug fit with out having to load the bottom of the box up with turf, plus it will look alot cleaner.

If the law really is 90dB at 5 ft you're gonna get a ticket with an x-metal waterbox if the cops actually measure. 90dB is not very loud. You might well get one with a dry stock box. The lack of performance increase/weight savings relative to the impact on the public opinion of jetskis in general is what concerns me. Everyone already hates us. Why give them ammunition? Here's a chart that shows a few examples:

Near total silence - 0 dB
A whisper - 15 dB
Normal conversation - 60 dB
A lawnmower - 90 dB
A car horn - 110 dB
A rock concert or a jet engine - 120 dB
A gunshot or firecracker - 140 dB

even with the xmetal box at dead idle both front and rear exhaust is in the water. The ski is very quiet. I noticed a great loss of weight in the nose by switching to the x-metal box.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>If you rode your boat at idle w/both outlets under water you'd have a valid point. As soon as the boat fully planes both outlets are out of the water and that's where the trouble starts. You can hear boats w/those waterboxes a mile away. It's not a "little louder". Even a stock box can be fairly loud with a strong motor. Assuming you run a FC valve and/or restrictor to the stinger of your pipe both boxes will be very dry. If both are equally dry the difference is only 3lbs give or take a pound. I'm not singling you out, I just find it hard to believe you felt a great loss of weight with a 3 lb difference. Your riding must be very refined. No offense intended, but my guess is that the increase in performance is largely subliminal.

in the area we ride, noise really isnt a factor. Its in the bay and a busy river and the ocean. 99% of the boats on the river wake me up every morning , you wanna talk about annoying thats it right there. On plane those boats can be heard about 2 miles away. I have never heard a jetski on the river that was "obnoxiously" loud. And yes Pancake and others ride there with x-metal boxes and stuff and none of them have ever been obnoxiously loud from the shoreline. Its not a small community pond or lake area.

Somehow my X2 was much louder than Pauls ski with the Xmetal box when we rode in late sept. We're in NJ with maniacs riding boats everywhere, I like having my ski loud.

Back on topic, paul got any new progress pics?

Freakin werd... Our skis are loud, but nothing like all the cigarette boats with the 1000 hp race motors whipping past you wit all the gindaloons on them... A O Vinnie ! :eek:mfg:

Well, it has been a while since an update.. The hull is about 95% done. The top and bottom decks are now one and we installed the foot holds. The hood is out of the mold and the pole is in the works. The hull will be going to Stuck Up Sticker Co. on wed if all goes well for some graphics! Cant wait! I will try to get some updated pictures up.
