Hey, Michael, for years I competed against a guy on a wammer hull. Yeah, he had a lighter hull, he could pull double troubles. He was better than me. That is how I looked at it. But I did not let it discourage me from competing. I did it for the fun and comraderie. I did not worry about what place I got. Yeah, it was fun beating that guy some, It did happen a few times, he would choke, have somethign go wrong, like what happened to stoyer on Sat. Dont give up because of the fact that there may have been a guy with an 1100 motor. Honestly, I enjoyed watching your run over his. You looked like you were having fun, that is what matters. Head down to Myrtle Beach this weekend and compete and just have fun!.

Great POST!!!!

I do understand STARTER KILLs frustration-but like BK said, you have to do it because it's fun. It dam sure don't pay worth a dam. LOL
I had big plans this year that went straight to hell in a hand bag and now I am simply trying to salvage a summer. lol Maybe next year
will be my year.

parrdaddy

No he will not!
Wow Mike, I was there for sooo many years. It's hard to hang with the Pros on a 701 but I felt like I always got people to notice my runs by throwing out every trick under the sun...as clean as I could. My goal was and still is to put on a show for everyone, the scoring will be what it will be. Your goal should be to have fun and be proud of how you throw it down IMO, if not, it becomes a lot more like work!

Stick with it, someday you may find your way into a competitive ski.....it only took me 12 years :) Thanks to XScream!!!!

That this guy says. How many guys do you know that will throw out hood tricks with and XS1000 with a Powerfactor pipe on it. Why? Because it is all about the show and that he can do it and make it look smooth as butter.

I think what you all need is a novice class . Because no other sport out there old you just show up one day and go pro class . What alex and Lucas and other riders around the globe are doing is training hard and have the right equipment to succeed . If they go on to worlds or nationals and place 1 or 2 and then try to hold back in amatuer that would be sand bagging . You can't expect first time competitors to go pro there first year . There will always be riders at the top level of each division and real new beginners too
just my opinion

Not just your opinion but 100% fact. Just because you have expensive equipment and the knowledge to use it does not make you a pro rider. Winning Nationals or World finals however as an amature does.
If he had been competing for years dominantly but never competing at the finals and just spanked everyone in amature forever then there would be a case here but I beleive this guy is NEW to compitition this year correct.

It makes it tough on the amature class when there are no rules regarding equipment (I.E. cc or hull lentgh or weight) but the rules do not regulate this any more so its who has the most money AND skill now.
Just the way it is.

Starter Kill, bro, hang in there. Do what you can whith what you have as clean as you can do it bro. Eventually one of 2 things will happen. Someone will hook you up with a AM hull or motor or whatever or you will eventually be able to afford your own. Pardaddy performed awesomely for years in this same situation and had fun and was highly respected (not openly LOL, his head would just get too big) but respected for it .
Keep at it bro, its all in good fun.

I agree and Disagree. Problem is, there is not enough competitors to have 3 classes. I wish there was. Amateur needs to be under 800cc and OEM Hull. Period. The main reason to allow it in AM is pressure by the Aftermarket Hull and Engine Builders.......

I remember about 5 years ago the CC limit for Pro was still 800cc, there were several that showed up with stroked motors that frantically pulled them and put in legal motors (World Finals). Now we are looking at Amateurs with 900cc motors that the Pro's could not even use 5-6 years ago. This is freaking ridiculous. The Rules now are pathetic. OK, there, I said it!. Then you have a competitor who dominates an entire series, and I dont mean he sucks and was just better than everybody else, I mean he is riding like Ratti did in 2006-2007-2008. Ratti was borderline in 06, 07, 08 I believe he went pro that year. Pulling huge no handed rolls, trying flairs and or landing them.........It is time for that person to step up to Pro. Now, the conundrum here. The guy on the XFS was pulling back flips, Flairs, and Rolls, but that is all he did. They did not really flow, He really did not have much else there. (In time, he is going to be very very good from what I saw), but I did not see him being "Pro" level. He is able to pull the tricks solely based on the hull he was riding. This is where having 3 classes would fit in. He would fit in the middle class.............................

OK. Read between the lines, I feel like I am rambling.

Am class is really tough, nothing we can really do about it unless more people show up. It sucks to know you have more skill than the other competitors but you are unable to beat them because their pockets are deaper than yours. Alex is a great rider but if you sall him on his last boat "oem hull" you could truly grasp his skill level. It's amazing what the boats can do these days, ohh and how much they cost $$$

it's sad to know that i have about 10 K invested in my superjet, and it's considered " heavy hull, not best for flat water competition freestyle, and extremely under-powered " , but yet I have to compete against a hull that weighs 150 lbs less, and has a questionable "1100" cc motor in it.

Yes, thats f'n lame... Ive been saying this for years on here.

There should be 3 classes.
(1) Novice class- oem hull with 800cc or less
(2) Amateur class- am hull with 900cc or less
(3) Pro class- unlimited/run whatchya brung

That is what the APBA had changed to a couple years ago. The only difference is what you call the "novice" class was just still called "Amateur". The reason they did this change in the first place was because of all the people who wanted to compete, but didnt have bookoo bucks to invest in a A/M hull and a big ass engine, etc. Well, they changed it back to what it is now to combine classes and save time i guess. I'll say it again, ITS LAME!

Let's face it though the progression of the sport in the past 2 years has been rapid and the advancement in all the equipment as well . This is a big part of what separate johnnny on the superjet and Jimmy on full on 900cc Rickter .
I have seen riders be limited slot on what they are riding . Get the right kid like Lucas on the right equipment and look what happens .
Maybe there should be a limit of what tricks are allowed in amateur then . Whoever does those the best wins
This will always be debate every year it's a new problemn . Most has to do with the rule book being made by people who could care less about amateurs much less freestyle

You got that one right pal!!!!
