Especially for sitdowns, spending the extra $$ for the 3m self-adhesive backing might be worth it. Then just remove your old mats, fill any holes, clean, sand, and apply.

I agree with the adhesive backing. I done a ski with the dap and after your doen you have to clean all the edges with gas or the cleaner of choice and hope that it doesn't get under the mat and break it loose. I wouldn't do a sitdown by ordering a roll of it and making my own patterns. Just go to the hydroturf website and order a complete kit. Quick easy and painless

They are great people and will help ya w/ whatever you need.

some tips:
  1. buy DAP Weldwood (red can) from Lowes w/ some 1" and 2" brushes (cheapos)
  2. buy a quart of Acetone
  3. get turf kit from Hydro Turf
  4. sand the back of the turf and the spot where the turf goes w/ 80 grit sand paper
  5. make sure it is above 50F
  6. apply 2-3 coats of DAP to the turf waiting 10 min at least between coats. (do one panel at a time if ya want)
  7. Apply 1-2 coats to the deck let dry till it is completely dry. This may take 30 min if it's real cold.
  8. Stick the mats down to the deck. Start w/ one corner holding the rest of the mat away from the deck. One it sticks, it on there, so be careful.
  9. After the piece is stuck, beat the hell out of it w./ a rubber mallet, because the glue is pressure sensitive
  10. repeat w/ all mats..
  11. clean up w/ acetone
  12. drink a beer and enjoy

One of my employees that owns a Blaster 2 bought a kit with the self-adhesive backing and it worked great and was quick. I'd recommend the same thing for this guy. I agree with Slut that it's not rocket science, but the 3M adhesive backing and the pre-cut kit makes it fast, easier, and it looks good when you are done.

Thanks for the info, I allready have the mats so the self adhesive is not going to work for me. Is the DAP better then the hydro turf cement?
On the back peice can you use wax paper to help.

I usually just put the mats in place and trace around them with a greas pencil if there isn't an indentation that they fit into. Then take masking tape and go around your outline, use tha paint brush and paint glue on the hull and the piece you are attaching, give it time to dry peel the tape and apply the turf,Then go around the edge with a shop rag and acetone to clean up the grease pencil marks and any glue that may have gotten by.

I think he is trying to stick a small portion at a time without the rest of it sticking, yes wax paper or even regular paper or cardboard will work, the contact cement should not be sticky at all if it is properly dried.
