Is water getting to engine a problem with lay down pipes??

I'm about to run a wet pfp with a rrp waterbox in the surf and I'm worried about water getting to engine if ski floats without engine running. Does anyone make any sort of exhaust valve or scupper? Any suggestions? Am I just being paranoid?

RRP box will backflow, raising it helps but just get a fricking PFP box and don't risk blowing your chit up
 
I have a braapworks box too. Do you think it is better?

I don't know much about the braapworks boxes. The pfp box works well since the inlet and outlet have substantial height differences. I had the rrp box fill many motors full of water just from sinking the tray down to climb back on the ski.
 
Hi. I have the PF water box and pipe in my freak running wet and dry setup. (Sand guarantee). Your old TPE1105....mostly surf riding ...no issues at all.....no scupper. 2 bilge pumps. Limited slip gas tank 148 torrent set back
 
Never had an issue with my TNT/964 in my surf boat and my pf in my flatwater boat hasn’t had any issues yet and I leave it floating around the marina quite a bit during launches. Lots of filters in the surf boat though, I used a cleanable blowsion filter then fuel style and like a 115 jet in the surf to let most sand through on the wet TNT to keep it from clogging.

the hull design and builder plays a huge part on water back flow. if the thru hull tube starts at the top and makes an S down and out, its a lot less likely that water comes back in just by sinking the ass end down. lazy builders like WDK lay a straight tube right in the bottom so water flows right back in. the waterbox design is also important. a good waterbox has to fill up before letting water back into the pipe chamber
 
Ditto on the filters. 2 cleanable Jabsco filters before manifold and another fine cleanable filter before the spray bar for wet running. Does still clog occasionally. Hence the dry setup simultaneously

Do any of you guys make an upside down "P" trap with silicone hose for the exhaust tube just in front of the bulkhead to stop the water from coming in from the rear of the ski?

I hope this doesn't piss too many of you guys and gals off. But I read here to learn. Any chance one of you could post up a picture of an engine bay with a lay down pipe installed? Is this a lay down pipe installed (from Blowsion website).

Yes that is a lay down pipe. They have larger chambers and are more suited for big bore applications. They also make it impossible to fit the stock tank so you are limited to less than 3 gallons with a cart tank. As they sit flat (laying down) they have no natural trap for the water to not back flow into the engine. Something like a Bpipe has a loop that goes up and over the height of the engine keeping water from gushing in. Laydown pipes are like a ramp directly into your exhaust port, any water sitting in your pipe can backflow into your exhaust port if the engine is not running, even more water can get in if the waterbox design is not designed to act as a trap.

I run a tnt waterbox and have no issues with water injestion(waterbox inlet is raised up quite high) even though my wdk has an exhaust tube that lays flat.
Also able to fit a 4.5gal thrust tank.

Cam someone describe how we might go about doing this in detail and drawings?
 
Raise your water box as high as it will go. Get 2 silicone elbows on eBay or wherever and couple them together. Could also put a rubber "flap" over your exhaust exit. Tap a thin piece of aluminum epoxy it to ur hull, screw rubber flap to that. That's 1 idea of many.
