The refinery pricks are simply screwing the people with a diesel vehicle. That fuel has the LEAST amount of refining yet costs the most. They are keeping the price high because they know that most shipping is done by diesel powered vehicles. Also typically the large diesel trucks are pricey. I suppose they think if you can afford the truck then you can afford the fuel. People that bought a jetta to save money are probably feeling it right about now...and for the last 3 years.

We still get 50 MPG from our Jetta so it just about works out the same as the xB getting 40 MPG.

 Bad News: OPEC wants to cut oil production / gas production to drive up prices. Gas prices are expected to sky rocket. Booo!

This is true and very important to understand and watch. OPEC controls the price of crude oil and in turn affects the price of fuel. This is not a free market and is controlled by the OPEC cartel. I don't remember the exact countries and prices but many oil producing OPEC countries need crude to be at $80/barrel or $90/barrel and some countries need it to be at $100/barrel in order for those countries to balance their budgets. It is OPEC's job to control the production of oil in order to meet these artificially high oil prices. If you think that the gas prices are going to go back to a reasonable level you need to do some homework. This downturn in gas prices is only temporary and will not last much past the next "emergency" OPEC meeting set for, I believe, next week?

OPEC Meeting is friday

OPEC's got 2 things competing against each other: the fear alternative energy sources are going to lead to much lower demand in oil, and the desire to keep the price of oil high.

It's a balancing game that I don't think they can win.

Now we are getting down to a somewhat reasonable price for a gallon of inferior (compared to before they infected it with ethanol) gasoline...$1.679. Funny thing too, the price of deer corn has come down about $2.00 a fifty lb bag.

Burleson, Texas-Raceway fuel station. I was wrong it is $1.779. Wal-Mart is $1.749, if you buy a prepaid gift card knock another $.03 off of that.
