This was the video that started it all for me. Jet waves. Hard one to find but arguably the best. This excerpt was shot in Baja featuring Scott Watkins and Chis MacCluggage. The surf riding is just as relevant now. Watkins is pure magic. Sorry about the quality but Ive had the tape since 94 and its beat. Enjoy!

I've still got my copy too, awesome vid, it really took the production level up a few notches. Watkins on a 550 and Mac on a SJ, Kantz on his X-2, Sheldon was ok too.

Watkins was just unreal, he'd pull a huge reentry and immediately is looking for his next hit, none of that look at the camera and give the O face stuff.

What kills me is they filmed the North Shore segment while I was in Hawaii. I wish I could have gone to watch.

No way!

Yea, the video just had a certain vibe to it. No cheese, No raditude, No A.D.D. "Extreme dude" crap or seizure inducing editing...

Wow.....I forgot about that vid! Watkins was killer smooth....And that was on a 550 with no footholds/straps, about 50hp, a tiny pump, no tubbies, no scupper valves, trim,etc.......all things that seem so necessary to everyone now.

There was more finesse involved back then.

amazing how smooth he could look on a squirrely a 550.

There was a shift somewhere along the way toward aerial manuevers off the wave instead of doing things that flow with the wave.It is evident every time you ride in the surf.Much like aerials the learning curve of surf riding is a school of hard knocks.Pearling,hitting the bottom,handle pole to the gut,low side pearl after floater tail drop and my favorite going over the falls with your ski in those critical sections of the wave.Finesse great! progress the surf riding better!

Yep...that's another classic video.

Ahhh...Yes...Going over the falls. One of my favorite places NOT to be on a big day. But then how many guys here can say they have been there? And on a 440 or a 550? Come on...fess up. Or at least post a picture of a broken handlepole.


Scott's "freestyle 550" was unveiled at the 90 world finals way back when (it was all top secret, under a cover until his crew UN-wrapped it when it was his turn to ride freestyle...everybody was like Oooooh).

Stop watching jet waves and get that engine off the bench and back in the ski.If you wanna make it on to the pages of a check book like Watkins your going to have to finish that boat and ride more.
