Joe Positive NEWS!!!

Good info for the laymen 1200Blaster - most folks have no idea what the GCS is, but explaining it this way helps folks to understand a little better what state Joe is in.

Here's yesterday's update (sorry, I took a MUCH needed break and did a 75 mile training loop in the Delta to train for the Mark Hahn 300, so was out on the water all day)

1/28/07 - 7:22 p.m. -

Joe continues to improve. He has his hands restrained to prevent him from pulling out his breathing/feeding tube, it seems to be terribly uncomfortable. The nurse said there is talk of removing it on Monday. She also said Joe was in an extremely lethargic state rather than comatose today, but I have not spoken with the neurologist to confirm. I hope he can have a few visitors later this week.

The investigation into the assault is ongoing and will take some time. (edit from L.P.: we appreciate folks keeping discussion of this off the internet. It's not only upsetting to many closely involved to have speculation and commenting going on, but more importantly, it's an ongoing investigation, so it would be very inappropriate to comment without firsthand knowledge. Thank you for understanding).

Shawn just called me to update - he awaits the physician's arrivial this morning to see if they can remove the breathing tube for Joe as he continues to do pretty well. In all honesty, he's far from being out of the woods, but considering where he was a week ago today, he's doing a stellar. I'll update asap, but you may want to start checking the www.letjkknow.com site for the most up-to-date info as it's getting hard to update multiple sites in a timely manner. I always do that one first.

Thanks for understanding,
LP

From Joe's brother, Shawn:

Joe keeps improving. He opens one eye about 2/3 when asked to do so. The doc removed the pressure gauge and arterial blood pressure line today, may remove the breathing tube tomorrow. Joe follows most commands. Impressive strength. We try to keep him as calm as possible, not always easy. He is making the nurses earn their pay.

That's great news. The funny thing is that the image that brings to mind is Joe with a hangover - eyes 2/3 open, following "most" commands, hassling nurses
