Custom/Hybrid js 701 w/144 pump

great... trying to order my materials from uscomposites and the ordering part of the site is down. Is it the type of site where you can only order during business hours? Im not sure exactly how much material to order. I'm going to get:
1708 biaxial (probably 10-12 yards).
3:1 epoxy resin system (do i need 1 or 2 gallons?)
measuring cups, some gloves, mixers, brushes, rollers
2lb foam, some chopped strand and cabosil.
and wanted to try the epoxo 88 for bonding aluminum pieces to the hull for mounting everything (unless people want to suggest otherwise). funny thing is if you read the product data sheets it says they have tested the products on guinea pigs, rabbits and rats....

Looks like a good list, you'll have plenty of glass with just 10 yards, could probably even get less. Solo cups are a cheap alternative to mixing cups of you order the pump for the resin( Make sure your accurate in the mixing!!!) just don't get a rabbit stuck in the glass work

composites are coming in on friday. went with 12 yards of 1708 because the cloth is the cheap part. Im making a new hood, pretty much an entire nose. reinforcing just about everything, widening the rails, glassing in a pump and doing a tray/footholds. So it'll be a lot of glass. Might run out of some resin, got 1 gal... didn't want to over order on the resin since it's expensive. Waiting on the pump cavity from tom21, and need to call up jetmaniac for a few parts and to see if he has any used parts that I need. paypal is asking for my ss card, drivers license, and proof of address for some reason. So am transferring the money out of it, making a new account and a new bank account that will only be used to transfer money into the paypal. will take a while before i can use paypal to buy some used parts.

The 9 liter lart tank came in today. The barb fittings on that tank are so small... will it restrict fuel flow?

Did the patented rocker technique but don't really like how it looks. The middle portion of the hull comes down so much farther than the outsides edges that it makes it kind of weird. I might just cut out that inner portion. Or see if i could build up the sides. Maybe just take off the entire nose and sculpt it out foam? Any suggestions here?

first layer of fiberglass is down. tomorrow im going to fill in all the gaps and then do a layer on the inside and fill from the outside. After that i will pour some foam to start shaping the front. IMG_0384.jpgIMG_0385.jpg

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to line up a complete power plant/pump from scratch?

My plan is this:
attach the pump shoe into pump cavity. clamp pump up against the shoe and mark holes to attach pump to aluminum inserts (will then shim the pump as required). With the pump set in the tunnel/cavity set up a jig to align the pump cavity with the hull (i will make sure the driveshaft comes through bulkhead in the center of the ski/level/ high enough for the engine to hook up with.
Then the midshaft will have to fit completely over the driveshaft and be flush with the bulkhead. After that it will just be getting the engine at the right height using aluminum plates and making sure it square with the hull.

filled in the gaps from the inside with some resin mixed with glass strands. let it dry a little and get tacky then layed a sheet of 1708 over it. Tomorrow i will pour some foam and maybe start to shape it a little.

foamed up the entire nose and started to shape it. I'm still working on it, so you can critique the design, but i know there's a few parts still uneven.there's a few spots i need to add a tiny bit of foam to because i took off a little too much. the ridge on the right side doesn't curve up enough compared to the left side of the ski so i need to fix that. and the curve on the bottom is a little off. all in all though i think it's taking shape. any advice on how to lay fiberglass over the foam like this (i only have 1708 biaxial)the pictures were taken at two different stages and there will definitely be a third, fourth and maybe more.

Pump tunnel came in, I would say it's just a little bigger than the old one. Waiting on paypal to update my info and then I will have 75% of my items coming in. I need the pole bracket in order to start glassing the nose.

got in a lot of my parts yesterday from jetmaniac. waiting on a couple more things before i can continue fiberglassing. the pump shoe is on its way, ill post up some pics later of the parts and hopefully next week i can get the pump glassed in and a layer of glass on the nose.

i cut and glued in the tabs for the pump and pump shoe. Everything is in and i started to construct a jig system to line up the pump. i now just need to finish grinding the some of the hull and then i can glue on a plate to bolt the midshaft to.

What do i want to do as far as tube running through the hull? My plan at the moment is the find a used exhaust tube that might work rather than have someone weld one for me. Im going to run two stainless steel tubes for cooling on each side. one pvc tube for the steering (i got a thru hull fitting from jet maniac) and even though I'm not going to run it right now a tube for trim. What type of tube do i need for the trim? I've seen a diagram someone for this stuff i just don't know where.

I would like to have the pump glassed in by friday. Also, I'm considering using an epoxy/cabosil mix on the pump shoe to make a seamless transition in the pump. Do you 5200 or use sealant to connect the pump seal to the pump (I'm talking about the actually pump, not the shoe)

thanks guys. I haven't really been able to get much done with work and all but I'm done with work in 2 weeks and will have 2 weeks off before i go back to school. but now my 750sx got a couple probably. the impeller is scrapping in the pump and the plastic cooling tube broke where it come through the hull.

That's not a bad idea. I switched it to single cooling for now. We'll see what happens when the season is over
