Just bought a 2014 SJ.

@JetManiac would you suggest straight across over the D cut? If so, do you think 1/4" at a time is too little?
You won't notice 1/4". I'd suggest flush with the transom. And is the ride plate shimmed down at all in the rear...?
After you decide you like it flush, "D" cut it. What's the worst that happens- you buy another stock, used plate and start over...?

OK. It is pure factory so the shim situation is unknown. I like the straight across option. Seems like a little bit of nozzle protection if I bottom out in a shallow. I know it hangs out a little anyway but one can hope.

too bad js550 rideplates dont fit. I have 3 of those around here.

Ha, if you're worried about busting a nozzle, look at the aftermarket hulls! My nozzle has no protection. The nozzle in a super jet is very well protected, even with a shortened plate.

Grinding the bracket that holds the trim stationary will help raise the nose under thrust. Most of the time I grind them the opposite way to zero out the nozzle for the buoys.
A flush or undercut rideplate will also help.

Yeah straight cut is nice! Idbuy another stocker and d cut it for the heck of it too.. I absolutely love my d cut, and I have no problem carving or at WOT. Feels awesome but slides out easier and makes it nose up a little easier.

Sharp carves at full speed elude me yet. I am sure that that is me and not the ski. LOL

A local guy has a watercross plate I might buy for the river and I was thinking about the D cut for surf.

I was getting ready to pay that much but Yamaha had that $1000 rebate. Had to get back on the water and I didn't want to buy someone else's problems.
