You won't notice 1/4". I'd suggest flush with the transom. And is the ride plate shimmed down at all in the rear...?@JetManiac would you suggest straight across over the D cut? If so, do you think 1/4" at a time is too little?

After you decide you like it flush, "D" cut it. What's the worst that happens- you buy another stock, used plate and start over...?
