Surfriding just curious, shark stories???

I'm land locked so this may be an ignorant question but I'm curious, so what the hell. I've seen on shark week that engine noise can sometimes attract sharks. Do any of you free riders have any good jet skiing shark encounter stories, or does the commotion tend to keep them away?

I've had two encounters, both when when my engine was off. First time, I had shut off my engine and was floating in waist deep water when I got bit right at the knee. It pierced my wetsuit, but not flesh. Felt like someone hit me with a baseball bat. Second time, my ski had sunk in the surf and I had some type of shark circling me while trying to bring my ski back to the beach. It never did mess with me, but made a bad situation that much worse!

Special - that's some crazy :):):):)! I'm gonna carry a shot gun now on. And your in Nj not far up from me. However I do notice every time i ride the dolphins flock to us and stick with us, sometimes our entire session, one nudged my hull once too. They always show up in my go pro vids.

I saw a (most likely tiger) shark at the end of the runway breakwater in Hawaii in 93 or 94. It was pretty good size but underwater and I was riding, but I turned and made a beeline back to our normal area.

I see sharks all the time. Mostly small ones (3-4') cruising the sandbars. I saw a 4-5 footer cruising about 10-15 off the beach.
They always haul ass whenever we are near.

At certain times of the year, its common to see large groups of 3-4' long leopard Sharks at our riding area here in Oceanside. They are harmless to humans and run rather quickly at the sound of our engines.

What's even better than that January through February is the worlds largest shark migration. Rite off the eastern coast off Florida. Rite off daytona beach shore line. Not to worry though most of these sharks are white tips and spinner sharks. But those sharks are being hunted by hammerhead sharks those you might want to be concerned about those ones. Wouldn't detour me from riding I'd just make sure i swam back to my ski quickly after falling off
