Kawi vs yami debate

So I know this is probably going to cause world war 3 but here we go. So right now I ride a 91 550sx reed motor ski. I'm building a 750 pro with a 701 61x single carb. Just recently I was out on the river where I was talk to a guy with a 800sxr who let me ride it. I was impressed with the power of that ski. It rip me out of the water like I was a rag doll. Keep in mind I'm 6'3 250 pounds.

My question and or debate is can I expect that same power out of my 701? I know there are a million threads about kawi is the best and yami are the best. But I want to know from people who have been on a 800sxr and a superjet.

And try not to turn this into a pissing match. Thanks

Everyone says the 701 has more bottom end. I was thinking if that's the case that I should feel the same pull as a sxr. Or am I thinking wrong?

I'm going with a 9/17 big hub and in the middle of working on a deal for a b pipe. Think that mite get me closer? What will it take to get a really good low end hit. Like I want the ski to damn there rip it's self out of my hands.

The kawi has longer rods makes more top end power
Yamaha is all bottom end power which for freestyle is why 95% of the freestyle guys have yamaha freestyle based power but I know wonder1 is going to argue this

What, no Polaris love...?
Sorry I ride kawis and soon a kawi with a yami motor. I just want to know what it will take to get my fat azz out of the water with my set up. I have been on a octane thought and it was a okay ski. I just wish someone near me has a rn superjet they would let me try.

loaded question, ive had both a kawi 750 and a yami 701 in my envy with the same pump/impeller, I would say it was a toss up, but the pump was not tuned for either setup either. where are you located? someone has to be near you

Okay I will try to explain my self the best I can. When I rode the sxr it was amazing it had power it cornered like a dream and it was bone stock. But I really want a superjet eventually. Do to the fact that I want to get into the freestyle end of jet skis. Maybe not go as far as zack bright or Brodie copp. But I want to do some stuff like that. But right now I have a 750 pro hull and I got a amazing deal on the 701 motor. I'm just wondering what would it take to get that 701 to pull like a 800 in my heavy pro hull. If this helps any better. I know you all mite be like just go buy a superjet which would be awesome but you see there was a time in life were I let my other brain do my thinking for me and now I have two daughters to take care of so I'm left to work with what I got. And right now it's a pro hull and a yami motor.

I have ridden both and really like both. The fella I am typically out on the water with has two slightly modded SX-R's. Both of his are 2005 I believe, my ski is a 96 SuperJet round nose with the 701, 62t cases and 61x cylinders. When my ski was stock it was a lot of fun, felt great for me to get used to, good power, with a very light handling hull when compared to his SX-R's. But definitely not as powerful and nowhere near as rough water capable as the SX-R's. On the side of weight though, my SuperJet in stock form could still fly much higher and further than the SX-R's off of the wave tops. Once I did all of my mod work though (pipe, exhaust porting, jetting, head, big hub impeller, blueprinted the pump, pump core stuffer), my ski feels quite a lot stronger than his. I was even able to pass him on the straight stretches (flat water of course) with my single intake and Lamey SBN48 carb. How would the Kawi respond to similar mods? ...probably would respond very well but performance parts for the Kawi's seem to be quite a bit more expensive and less abundant on the market...more so on the used market. Do I love the feel and handling confidence and ride stability of the Kawi...absolutely. Do I love the light flick it around squirrely ride and ridiculous power to weight ratio of my SuperJet? Absolutely! So to answer your question...the SuperJet certainly can attain massive power improvements with the right parts and time invested, and make the SX-R feel noticeably lower on power by comparison. But on a stock to stock level, if mod work is not your thing then the Kawi might be the right choice for you. If your future goals however are to have a round nose anyway, then work with what you have at the moment, learn the skills of the more tippy feeling SXi Pro (that is compared to the SX-R) and build your experience and knowledge on modding work so you will be well prepped for when you find your SuperJet.

Everyone on this Fourm has been nothing but a huge help. After my dad quit racing we really didn't have much to do with skis. After being on this Fourm got me wanting back on them and now you guys doing the crazy builds make me want bigger better faster and jump higher. Everyone's help and the smiles I get from my daughter when I get them on the girlfriends seadoo or just her face when she on her seadoo is the reason I love these skis.

If the SXR was completely stock, your 701 SXI will be as good or a little better as long as you use an aftermarket pipe. If the SXR had a pipe then your 701 will be much less by comparison.

His sxr was bone stock. He even lifted the hood cause his bilge pump keep kicking on. And when I was helping him make sure there wasn't a crack in his hull everything look stock to me. He had stock pipe stock carbs even stock air box. The only thing that look not stock to me was his water box it look like a all stainless steal one.

Build i a stock SXR engine in a ski with wetpipe/head only. Was extreme impressed about power from this combo.

That ski looks good. It's clean as hell. That your lambo? Man what I would give to get behind the wheel of a LP900 sv. Lol
