Kawi vs yami debate

Another good answer I was looking for. I know the sxr is more race bread and the superjet is more with the surf freestyle. I was more looking for bases of comparison as far as power. Like pulling me out of the water or from a nose stall. Little things like that. You and a couple others have answered that pretty well.

The yamaha engine will do you just fine. I know where you are coming from, a 550 engine can't do anything like that for guys our size. The 701 should make plenty power for you.

Got nothing to do with its power. Longer rods does not make it a stroker motor. It is just a different design. The SXR800 engine is actually designed for more bottom end than top. I have ridden plenty of SXRs with Mild to Heavy mods that I would love to put in my Superjet.

How does it differ or compare to a 750 sp or Bp? I've only ridden the 800 in the sxr hull and it is hard to say it has bottom since its in a heavy hull and usually propped for racing.

I've ridden a 650sx mostly stock (44carb stock pipe and compression) and in x2 I have had 750sp with westcoast pipe (not bored) and fpp as well as a 750bp with fpp and superjet waterbox. None of these combinations really seemed to come on early in the power. Rpms seemed to have to be higher than with the yamaha motor.

It's important to me that a motor can hit on the bottom and run a reasonable wot rpm so it can be raced too. My Superjet does this. Hits right off idle to 7200 rpm.

Not saying the kawi can't do it. Actually hoping you know something more than I do. Ryan has a 750sp single 44 coffman 650 pipe westcoast manifold westcoast water box 12/18.5 small hub prop. Doesn't hit until 2500 then makes plenty the rest of the way. Mine is a 750bp dual 44 fpp sj limited using westcoast manifold to sj waterbox and 2" exhaust. I am over proped at 14/19 c75 doesn't hit until 3500 then it's an arm yanker to 7200. Going to prop down to 13/18 but not sure I can get that hit off idle without getting too much rpm. Kawi actually seems to hit harder, just much later, afraid proping down to get more power is going to push me into the 7600-7800 rpm range when racing, not sure that is safe.

Make sure it is plenty rich around 1/4 throttle. If it sounds clean then its too lean and response will suffer.

My 701 61x single carb smokes the stock sxr800 but its built just over limited so not really a fair race but if I have to turn hard, ooh boy sxr gonna eat me up

So I have a SXi Pro and a square nose with a 701 (62t/61x). And Monday through Friday I will ride the SXi, come the Weekend and Rougher water its SuperJet time...
I am asked " which ski you ride the most?" Well both, they just live in 2 different worlds. Love to let that SXi loose top end. and I love to lift that Super jet out of the water just as high as it will go.
This is just still killing me LOL
once I got on an SXR hull, I felt like I was cheating!

How well does the pro stay hook in the corner? I have to fight my 550 to stay hook up and sometimes will still slide out on me. That 800 was awesome. Didn't have to fight it just leaned and hung on. Can I expect my pro to do the same or anywhere close to the 800 or am I going to be fighting it like the 550?

I have a 200 and it is Awesome simply Awesome in the Corner! I do recommend that measure your Exit (reduction) nozzle, if less than 80mm replace it. this will give you better "error Correction" when cornering, IMO... It is still important to have good technique, Left turns lean and drop off the back(reduces the risk of being High Sided), Right lean into the handle pole and out over the Right side(and you will just drive it through).

I have a 80mm nozzle off a ssxi. Stock ride plate and works top loader intake gate.

All the people on pwctoday told me I was an idiot and that I was wasting my time with a big hub. Said it won't make any difference in my ski.

Seriously. I posted the same question and a couple if people help. But then this one guy got on talking about being a big wig on that Fourm. Started calling me a dumb ass kid. Which I am not. I am older then him. Hell I have two daughter and a mortgage. He probably still lives with his parents. After he got on it was like they all tried to bash on me.

Well i have been told all my Square nose needs a 9/15 Big Hub prop. This is by someone who's wife's ski will lift up out of the water at the slightest touch of the Throttle. the deal with these, is that a bounch of little things add up to something Big... 59mm vs 56mm exhaust pot(kawi) 76mm vs 80mm Reduction nozzle, 70 degree edges on transfer ports, ect.

I have two nozzles. I have a 650 sx which I believe is a 83mm and a ssxi 80mm with trim. For now I'm going to use the 80 mil one run a cable in the stock bilge tube to have more pop out of the water if needed. But until I get the new prop alls I have is a crap 650 prop which is 15 pitch cut back. I'm certain it won't do much but just to get the ski on the water soon it's all I have.
