Other kicked off the lake yesterday ...

Yeh, thats what I told the cop. Im out on my day off work, being harassed constantly. Maybe your fond of spending 30 min floating in the river, or beaching your ski on rocks while you are checked for the third time for an extinguisher. This is god damn America. I pay my fees, I paid for my ski, I work my ass off. Im sure all of us do. If I want to ride, and Im not hurting anyone at all, and someone wants to mess with me, im going to stand up for myself. But I was always taught to stand up for yourself.

I would have issued you a ticket for each instance and made you waste your time fighting them in court acting like that. He pulled you over for not having a reg numbers, he's doing no wrong. And I don't buy your 70 days from reg statement but truthfully don't care to look it up to validate or prove you wrong.

Simple fact is if you "work your ass off" to pay for things why you can't find a way to pay for Reg letters/numbers that cost $.70 a piece to save everybody time & hastle. This "is America" but it ain't your "god damn America" so loose the F'n chip and get some common sense.

So you would have wasted your courts time also? No wonder leo is dwindling, they waste their money on petty bull:):):):).

I do not have my numbers on my ski because im going to paint it. Im sure this is part of the reason dmv allows you 70 days from date of payment. Make sense? The harrassment allegation sure would fly better with the cop issuing a ticket he knew nothing about, especially when the previous attempt didnt work. All this was previously explained to the cop, but like most, they just want to ruin your day. A reg ticket in my county is not a terminating offense, Do you know how many times at lakes they tried to kick me off until I informed them of this? Its wrong, and you as a ski rider should know it. Maybe its different where you are at but here, the leave me the hell alone attitude works best.

Cops profile ALL THE TIME. ITS WRONG AND YOU KNOW IT.

No pso has even questioned my sharpie reg numbers. Or when they were electrical tape for reg numbers.

Build common ground when talking to authority. Constructing walls or a sense of entitlement when speaking is why every other country hate most Americans.

my CF numbers are on my ski, always have been. Its the yearly sticker that i dont have on the hull, but he has been shown 3 times how inside with my brand new fire extinguisher he had me buy because he didnt like my other brand new one. Im not one to just up and flip out on a cop. Perhaps it was missed that I had been stopped before for the same things. Im not one to take my days off being wasted lightly. Nor having my gf floating in a river with me because a cop wants to check her extinugisher also. Good way to ruin my gf ever wanting to go out again.

Sorry if it came off like im out to get the cops. The oppostie. Id rather they left me alone and I leave them alone. Too bad most of them dont have the same attitude.

They constantly check boaters for the same reasons. My dad and i used to get stopped almost evrry time on his boats. They're just doing their jobs...i promise you they're not out to get stand up riders.

I put in at a landing that has both a wildlife office and city police office. Luckily most the guys that man those offices like stand ups and mostly just want to talk ab our skis and the mods. We respect them with our reg numbers clearly displayed and we keep it "safe" and follow the laws when they are in visible site. Like most others said they have enough to deal with as far as the crazy couch riders and drunken boaters go. Hell sometimes I wish I could issue tickets. There are some real dumb a**'s on the lake sometimes.

i used to get stopped everytime I rode the sac. Not displaying my yr numbers. DMV told me I dont have to put the numbers on my craft until 70 days after I registered it, but I must keep them on the vessel. Was stopped twice for this, by the same cop, given a ticket once, which is wrong, the third time I flipped out on him. Told him either give me a ticket or leave me the hell alone, that he was harassing me, and had given me enough tickets. I asked for his name and his badge number, which he gave me right away. i told him Id be reporting him for harassment. He was so quick to apologize and has been cool ever since.

Dont let these punks push you around. Its profiling what they do 90 percent of the time, and thats illegal. Let them know it. Dont tuck your tail, stand up for our sport.

Im gonna compare jet skis to skateboards. We are looked at like the enemy. No matter how NICE we are, the view of us is never going to change. No matter what. People hate other people having fun if they arent. Fisherman hate our tiny skis ruining their fish. Tree huggers hate the smoke. Swimmers hate the waves. Boats hate the danger to their tubers. If everyone hates me, why should I go out fo my way to be nice and respectful to someone who shows me no respect whatsoever. I tell you what, I refuse to be shoved around by a badge, thats just me

Put the fricken reg sticker on and they probably would not have pulled you over...
In my state a replacement sticker is $3.45. You wasted more time with these posts (let alone time on the water) than what the sticker costs.

To the OP, these rules are pretty much everywhere and nothing new. Locally we ride like banshees (looking over our shoulder), but as soon as any LEO shows up we put the skis on the beach and take a break.

It would take at the very least 1 hr of my time inside the dmv to get that replacement sticker, if they even do that in cali without some red tape.

My point is, being stopped for an extinguisher, or something that a officer has been informed of before, is a violation of your rights. Its assuming guilt. Illegal search. It happens all the time, and everyone just accepts it.

Heres some cool infor on boarding and safety inspections. http://safetyseal.net/pub_QandA.asp...View+=+1+Order+by+DatePosted+Desc&startwith=5

I dont know if its the general group that is into this hobby. But people always seem to throw money at problems on this site." Just pay the fee, fine, yada yada" Some of this are just on gp, and money cant make it right.

What are you implying by that link? It says "auxiliary" units can't write citations and can only board a vessel with boaters permissions for safety inspections. Coast Guard and other law enforcement can pull you over to inspect you anytime they want. It's not harassment to make sure people are boating safely.

this could go either way and we all know it. whether your cool with the patrol or they harrass you everytime your out. we all know there is one cop out there looking for one of us to screw up so he can kick us out or theres the cool patrol that just want to ask you about your ski and make sure your safe out there. i had a patrol boat pull me over at elsinore just to tell me to be careful around the bigger boats because were not easy to spot. but then again ive been pulled over for too sharp of a turn. bottom line is that everybody has there opinion. we dont need to bash on somebody and tell them there stupid for saying that, just ignore it and move on.

$3.45 = "throw money at problems" LOL
No, that is PREVENTING a problem. You chose to ride without the reg sticker which is basically an open invitation. I ride w/o a fire extinguisher 100% of the time, but you can be sure my #s and reg sticker look great to passing officers. IF they should ever inspect me and give me a ticket, I am prepared to accept that. But I am not giving them a reason to look.

From your link (granted, it is referring to the CG):
Any law enforcement agency can stop a vessel under a state or local authority or like the Coast Guard, a federal authority.......

An important Coast Guard mission is maritime law enforcement on the high seas and on water subject to Federal laws. Of particular interest are laws dealing with the 200-mile Fishery Conservation Zone, drug smuggling, illegal immigration, and safety and water pollution.

To enforce these laws, the Coast Guard is empowered to board and inspect vessels. Many of the laws can be successfully enforced only by boarding a vessel while it is underway. Boarding's are not necessarily based on suspicion that a violation already exists aboard the vessel. Their purpose is to prevent violations. The courts have consistently upheld this authority. All Coast Guard officers and petty officers are Federal law enforcement officers and they may board any United States vessel anywhere.

I see CA is $15 for a replacement decal, but you kalifornians gotta be used to that gouging by now. Save yourself the hour, you can do it online.

Thats exactly what I was implying, the coast guard and LEO can stop you anytime they want, they are supposed to be looking for violations, but they dont have to. This is a violation of your rights. Illegal search and seizure. You can fight things like this in court, instead of just accepting it. Its up to the judge. Its no different than being stopped on a motorcycle to see if you have an m1, or you being stopped to see if you have a drivers license, or if your car is equipped with seatbelts. Im still saying dont accpet the harassment. I havent seen a boat kicked off our lakes or rivers since ive been riding. Seen many standups booted and harassed all the time. Ever since I let that cop have a piece of my mind, our entire group has been left alone on the river. The lake is a different story, but even there, if you stand your ground it works much better than just tucking your tail and taking their bs about how they "COULD" give you tickets but they are cutting you a break by just kicking you off the lake.

Sorry to stir the pot so bad

...or maybe he had been checking people constantly doing random checks and pulling people for doing things that were out of the ordinary/unsafe and you just happened to keep catching his eye. From the sound and tone of all your posts, you clearly have a self righteous mentality and that's usually a pretty good indication that you obviously think you can do no wrong.

To the OP, 100ft is really freaking close. That law is in place because at that distance, there is little to no room for error. If you're following/jumping wake that close and the boat runs out of the gas, you're going to slam into the back of him if you turned around for half a second. Same thing if you're coming at him and about to hit his wake. You assume he will keep going but if he doesn't, then accidents are very likely.

Dude, Bottom line, your getting pulled over because you are breaking the law. No Sticker = Getting pulled over. That is your own fault and nobody elses. Also, Please Check your language. I am pretty sure God has his Superfreak with his DASA 1800 legally registered. He had nothing to do with you getting pulled over.

Sorry to stir the pot so bad

You know, for some reason we just don't get pulled over in the first place. Of course, we all have current registration numbers, wear helmets and pfd's, stay away from boats (when we see them coming) and swimmers, and generally behave pretty well.

Reading comprehension isnt a strong point in this thread. I said I was stopped by the same cop, by himself, multiple times for the same things. Its not illegal to not have my reg stickers on my boat, and he knows that. Therefore pulling me over for that is harassment. Plain and simple. I didnt plow headlong at boats, nor go within a 100 feet of them. i dont think I ever admitted to doing anything illegal in my entire rant. Unlike some people admitting to speeding or coming close to boats. hell 2 times I hadnt even started my ski and was at the launch.

Agreeing with the cops, tree huggers and other douches is going to get this sport gone. Look at guns and 4x4 trails. People tried being nice, people tried to do the right thing. Guess what? IT DOESNT WORK. Your fun is going to be regulated out from under you while you stand idly by defending the ones doing it. IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.

Glad the mentality up here seems to be on my side of the fence. Im done with this thread, opinions wont change. Sorry again about stirring the pot.

Sorry Dude, sounds like you failed to put on the "State Sticker - experation", You stated you did not have the Reg. Numbers, but had some leaway on that part. If having the State Sticker at least on your boat only is the law and you went out again a different day then you asked for it. If you got pulled over the same day by the same cop for the same thing, then that part is B.S.

Forgive me, the state sticker is what I dont have on my ski. Its in my fire extingusiher compartment along with my reg and brand spanking new 2nd fire extinguisher. I have always had my cf numbers, thats like your license plate, to identify and help avoid theft.

Give it 5 more years and the sac river is going to be off limits, along with all the lakes, and the only place to ride will be the ocean, and they wiull tack on some 2 stroke fee and make a special license required. All because people didnt want to stand up for this sport. We do not cause the majority of accidents, the majority of us are safe as hell when riding, and very well informed. I dont see why we should be hassled more than anyone else. I refuse that. I will not accept it and every police officer that stops me, regardless of a jetski stop, I ask for the reason im bein stopped, and if I dont feel its valid I get a badge number and a name. You would be extremely surprised how well this works.

Way way off topic, but kinda in the league. You do not have to answer any questions at a sober checkpoint. they are illegal, and there are tons of people who win because of it. They still do them and people still get duis because they dont stand up for themselves and their rights.
