knees dislocated it self.

So a few years ago I feel off a diesel truck i was working on. Foot got stuck in the bumper and went the way the knee is not supposed to bend, popped and just stayed there for a few seconds all crooked. Then it popped back in place. Hurt like hell. Ever since that ill be working or just standing and it blows out causing me to usually fall and hang out on the ground till I can breathe again cause it hurts so bad. So now Im about to get into some jet skiing and I have a feeling this will be an issue, since it happened the other day just trying to sit on my dirt bike, go figure climb on trucks all day for work and go to sit on my bike and BAM. Anyone know any good excersizes to help this portion on the body? I dont really go to the gym or anything, probably should tho. Any info is appreciated.

my kid had similar experiences, her knee cap would just slide to the side and the bones would go the wrong way. they ended up putting in some screws with tendons attached to stabilize the kneecap. go get it checked before it gets screwed up even worse. good luck.

Physical therapists will know exactly what exercises you need to strengthen it to prevent that from happening or at least lessen the chances.

Strengthen your quads, most importantly your vastus medialis...most knee dislocations go laterally so a PT is going to tell you that strengthening the muscles holding the patella are the most important to decrease chances of this happening again...

first off, go to get an mri so you can really know what was damaged and how bad. I just had one yesterday because my knee popped out in the surf. Other than that you are guessing on what the problem is and could further damage it.

^^^^^ X2 .. you got some mechanical stability issues going on in there IF IT PUTS YOU ON THE GROUND .....see a doc , Im pretty sure he will refer you to an ORTHO , theres a whole lot of tendons from all angles that hold a knee together

Some terms to google: ACL, MCL. Definitely go get it checked out. From what I understand, a torn/ruptured tendon isn't going to fix itself, physical therapy or not. In the mean time, maybe a good knee brace (www.asterisk.com) would help? Knee problems are NOT good, as you've found out...go get it looked at soon. As for jetski's, I wouldn't try it as is based on your description.

EDIT: Google Ryan Villapoto knee surgery as well. Very common injury in motocross, doesn't much of a fall in a corner to mess up things.

Definitely get it looked at and fixed before it gets worse. My dad blew out his knee about 10 years back. Tore pretty well everything you could in a rather similar way(lower leg going one way, upper body going the other) 4 surgeries later he can walk, but is just getting by until he has to go in for a knee replacement. To this day he has to be careful of what he does because his knee will randomly pop out if not. There are also some knee braces that will help

^ACL/PCL injuries usually have a quick torsion and a pop sound to them and I havent heard of the patella dislocating with on either of those times of injuries but I guess it could happen, the orthopedic tests for them are to stabalize the lower leg and pull forward and push backward on the tibia, excess movement will tell if there is an injury to either...MCL/LCL injuries are also different, the orthopedic to that basically involves laying prone and having the doc stabalize your thigh while pulling upward and turning your leg to check for pain/excess movement which would indicate either of those...it SOUNDS like a patella dislocation, there are some orthopedic tests to check it (mind you they hurt..since they basically test to see if it will kinda dislocate again..) I wont describe those because I dont want you to dislocate it again yourself...if you look in an anatomy book there is really only one tendon holding the patella, which is the patellar tendon. It is part of the Quadriceps muscle group and holds the patella above and below your knee and attaches to your tibia from the quads. Again I would say go into see an MD but they will basically say the same thing I just said, there could be a slight tear or something which an MRI could pick up but unless its a significant tear (in which surgery would be the option) then all they are going to do is just PT and strengthening of your quads.. Again I have not seen or evaluated your knee and am going off the small paragraph you typed, just putting in my 2 cents...go see a doc and get it worked out.

this doesn't look like it helped your knee either. Go get it looked at
It was my right leg in those pics. That leg seems good.

xsmike, thanks for the links to those braces. they look awesome. Im going to get one for sure.

I will for sure go see a Dr. soon. Not only does it effect my rec. activities like jet skiing, but Im also an auto mechanic and Im pushing it often with that knee.

Thanks again for everyones imput, really helped alot! Hopefully I can find a way to fix this.

Ha only this place would have a forum for this! Two days ago I was freestyle riding in my home town and well the water lever is a lot lower than I remember. I was practicing for an upcoming event this weekend and well the water started getting really choppy and I was trying backflips on what I came to find out was some very shallow water! I caught some great air but came down a little rough and as I went to bail of the side of my machine I put my left leg out first and quickly found out it was shallow! of course in this particular spot was a nice rock and as my foot stopped on the rock my body continued forward and well I got to expierence what it is like to have my leg bend the wrong way. Of course there were tons of people on the pier watching me practice so I quickly got back on my machine and rode off like all was well enough but let me tell you! I have been laid up the past two days icing and trying to heal since I have to compete this weekend! I am glad I found this thread because there is a lot of useful advice! Unfortunatly I have a thick head and am competing this weekend no matter what so I am either going to really further injure myself or have a :):):):)ty ride either way I want 1st!

Haha, some of the threads in here should probably be moved to the Carnage forum.

Heal up!

suggest you ride with these expensive but well worth it also very free moving

Those look legit. But damn pricey. Ive been riding everyweekend and luckily Im guessing my knee doesnt bend that certian way to pop out, not yet at least! I should see a doctor soon while I still have insurance, just very little time.

I still have the mx/bmx in me when I get a littly sh!tty in the air I want to bail, just gotta hold on.

HydroWarfare, popping my knee out is probably the worst pain Ive been thru except broken ribs(only reason that sucks so bad is I couldnt breath) Suprised you manned up and rode off, I know Id be bobbing in the water for a few mins cursing up a storm.
