It's a closed cell foam so all you need to do is let it drain out and it'll dry, doesn't water log. Then shoot some 5200 into the hole and screw your bolt in and it'll cure and seal it. I've seen it happen sometimes when the bolts run too long and crack the glass but it's no biggy to let it dry and seal it up

Since this is a 50cal surf thread.... Here is a way to upgrade your hood pin. The factory pin is ok but I want to be able to get a really good seal. Once the factroy pin is set you cannot ratchet the hood into the seal more.
This is my solution 1 3/8 x 3 bolt, 3 large washers, 1 3/8 nut and a 3/8 wing nut.
Cut out the old pin on the hinges ( very easy ) drill a 1/2 hole into your latch all the way thru. Put the 3/8 bolt in place of your old pin and you are done!
You can now press the hood down and tighten the wing nut so the hood is nice and snug. I still run my strap over the top of the wing nut ( $$$$ in my motor LOL ) just in case. I ride a lot and very aggressively in surf only, I am just starting to learn to flip so I don't want to worry about my hood at all.

You may want to double check your seal at the pins by the tray. Might be making a gap after crankng that wing nut down. I just set my pin so I have to really push the hood down to latch the pin...

The pin works good but like you said you have to push it down so hard to get a ( up to my standards ) good seal. Since using the hood bolt I have noticed my bilge spitting out a lot less water.


I noticed a lot of water coming in around the latch after I gutted it so I had to silicone in the latch. I simply taped off the latch, drilled 2 holes and filed the whole latch with silicone. I am a bit anal about water getting in my ski.

So i had the bolt that holds my trim nozzle inplace come un-threaded. And when i landed a bit sideways the water pressure ripped my whole trim/nozzle assembly off. Could have sworn I lock tighted it.. oh well, I ended up using the bolt from my hood pad with a few washers as a quick replacement and it worked great lol.

So I drained all the water out of my hull, there was about 2.5 gallons in it, then I threw in thrusts tiny little versa plug.

And here's the bolt I used as a temp fix.. I still need to helicoil it though.

Just 20lbs of water lol. Did you ride since draining the water? Did you ever notice if your ski was not floating as well or leaning to 1 side before draining?

Lots of water for a closed cell foam filled hull. I do a knock test to check for hallow. Chances are you can drill one hole and foam fill. The water came from voids where there is no foam. All of which doesn't help it float if dead in the water.

Yeah im about to stuff her full of pool noodles. What kind of foam should I use? I know 2 part takes on water eventually.

Oh and when I drilled through the hull to install the trim tube It was nothing but foam throughout.

Cam I don't want to dump on this thread but 2 part foam is the solution. Im saying there is a void in the foam somewhere. Knock knock knock hallow somewhere. Fill and be done the little drains are a good idea to keep it dried up out of water as well.

Its all good I'll take any help I can get. I understand what your saying now though. I'll try and find the air gap then drill and fill with 2 part.

So if anyone is still following this thread Ive concluded that my leaky tray area was due to user error. My ski didnt come with the new trim tube krash uses. So I had to drill and install one that Chris sent me, annnnd it looks like I over tightened it and crushed the rubber washer they give you that makes a water tight seal. Anyway I'll be pulling the pump, fixing that issue, and changing the prop out once I get a new KV997 :)
