Surfriding Lake MI winter Wetsuit HElp

Looking for a wet suit for freezing water temp. Looking at the rip curl Flash Bomb 6-5-4. Or the quick silver cypher 6-5-4. Both are hooded. I will also have booties and gloves on. LMK your opinion.

I'm using a Ripcurl F-Bomb 4/3 in waters as low as 35 degrees with air as low as 25 degrees.
I am also wearing neoprene socks, wrestling shoes, and a tour coat.

Have you considered a dry suit? I have a used slippery sub-zero listed on the for sale board and am right down the road from you.

i surf all winter in my 6/5/4 xcel, i would only buy a wetsuit with a front zipper. i dont no how the new suits are but the older 6/5/4 weighs a ton. the coldest the water gets here is around low 30s and the 6/5/4 keeps me toasty besides the huge gash in the back of it lol.

This does help imensely. It literally warms your whole body even though its just your hands

I haven't warn the rip curl flash bomb in cold waters but I tryed it on and it is comfortable. I always have owned rip curl wet suits in the past so If it were me I would go with it over the quicksilver.

yea im thinkinking rip curl. another thing is i talked to a guy at a scuba shop and he said that drysuits keep you dry but dont keep you warm. and if a drysuit which one? it needs to be under $450. i just want to stay warm.

The key to a drysuit is wearing warm clothes underneath it.
A very good PWC drysuit is the OSS one. They are out of Oregon. Watcon sells them and they fit your budget.
I personally cannot stand having a tight rubber ring around my neck, so I prefer a good wetsuit.

I have had it 2 years and wear it late in the season and also right when the ice comes off the lakes. I am not sure of the water temp but I would guess 40s.

I would look into the 6/5/4 semi dry suit w/ hood because you hardly get wet in them and they have adjustable velcros seals on ankles and neck for comfort level.

we have our own WATCON dry suits.

these are front zip ( for easy on), have rubber booties, sealed right to the suit. when i wear mine, i wear long underwear, sweat pants, ( or even jeans), tee shirt, sweat shirt, wool ( or other warm) socks, etc. very warm. key is you are DRY, and can wear warm clothes under it.

It makes no sense to me to go into freezing water with a wet suit ! Get a semi-dry suit as the least or around 100 bucks more get a dry suit...why suffer to save money ?

I use a wetsuit in freezing water and I assure you: I don't suffer. (Maybe from mental problems)

A good wetsuit appropriate for the temps you're riding in will keep you at least as warm as a drysuit.

Surely you can not tell me that when you fall, freezing water does not go into the suit and there is a quick shock value...In surf especially there is white water flow that is going into a wetsuit and when the water is freezing, not fun imo.

That doesn't really happen with a quality suit. In fact, a lot of times the core area of the suit isn't even wet when I take it off.
