Lamey Cylinders **NO MORE**

FYI There will be no more CAST body style Lamey Cylinders available as of today. The new ones will all be machined billet aluminum and more money.:sadwavey:

I do not think the new ones will be as good. Extra heat and the wings that feed the fuel to the ports will be straight and not angled like the cast ones.

If you got them hold on to them as they will fetch a premium in my opinion.

So who will be the first to test the new one??? :ugh:

The new ones are 5 port as well at the moment

I wouldnt worry about the angled transfer port
most serious high hp engines i know of that are being built these days have the cases opened right up and it will not effect it

It makes me wonder why they did it however the casting was already there and good to go , why go to the work of changing it

I did not know about the 5 ports part. Something new learned every day.

I agree for top end the angled ports may not make that much difference but for us mid to bottom end it does as it helps the flow by directing it to the ports faster which gives us the snap we want.

He is making more and more in house and bought a full CNC milling machine with some sort of angled adapter so I’m not surprised he did it.

the out come will be intresting

When you cut the case the gases get there quicker with less distance to travel
we did an engine and cut the cases to allow the extra ports to come straight down
the major gain was the low end throttle response it hit like a mother off the bottom
and it gained a bit extra up top as well
I wouldnt build another 7 port cylinder with out doing this

My cylinder is still at the engineers and be cutting out the first of the mill
i have still to finish the water jackets but its almost there
Will be ready to go soon
It probally doesnt look like its changed much from the last drawing you guys have seen but believe me it has
Im still debating on pv,s
Im not sure they are worth the hassle you get with a pipe on them

it will handle up to a 90mm bore at this stage

Why wouldn't he CNC it? Times have changed and this is the way the metal industry is heading. I think it will be sweet, maybe he'll be able to produce them faster now.

my understanding is that casting is cheaper to do, cheaper for materials, and faster. billet is for bling.

XSCREAM has 4 of the new cylinders in production right now.
All 1000cc.
Should be testing the first in a couple weeks.
Our general belief is the power will be a wash.
The down side of the cast cylinders was that not one was the same as another.
With the billet there will be consistantcy.

Progress can be scary

According to that commercial Dan starred in, he can now do the CNC machining much faster & cheaper than his other processes. The commercial dealt with quad engine products, but it probably applies to this stuff, too.
He can just start the machine, and have a finished cylinder with little needed attention a couple hours later.

that's good to know. I'm sure he's got high production machines in there. what I posted is probably an old school way of thinking anymore.

It is nice to see the sport progressing in this direction. Costs are comming down a little in some areas and quality is going up all around. :beerchug:

waxhead,
Do you have a Solidworks compatible drawing I could get hold of?

Mike.
Sorry but i am not about to give out that drawing
It took ages to draw and i am looking to do a production run of them

Cnc is better for making small changes i agree
Not sure about the lack of transfer ports since thats the weak area in a yammie cylinder is the transfer area

I would if Lamey ran into the same problem we did with the casting foundries. When we were building cylinders for the snowmobile industry we could not get them to actually produce the cylinders for us. They had no problem taking the $$$$$, but would never actually make them. After suing the second foundry, the onwer bought a CNC mill and started making billet cylinders.

Hey Pat, what kind of inconsistancies where you finding???

The good thing is you can almost set the port timing you want with the mill

And the ports will be perfect when you get it
I was planning on setting my cylinders for a good free ride setup and then if you want to race it you can port it to do so

By doing that you will not have to run power valves and so its easier on maintainence as well cheaper to buy with the same low end that you get from a pv cylinder
