No, there's no BEST way to ride. What ever feels comfortable.

That being said: Goofy foot is the best way to ride:poke:

Jake your goofy foot???? You never told me that- No wonder your skis always broken!!!! LOL!!!

No sorry to thread jack- but menatep your going in the right direction. Just think of your stand up as a bicycle and sitdowns like a really fast tricycle. Like a bike theres a definate learning curve but once you've got it down you would never go back to a tricycle- no matter how fast it was.

Once you get real tired, stop riding. If you ride when you are tired you won't get better... just more frustrated. If I am turning right my right foot is forward, if I turn left, my left foot is forward. good luck

When i stood up for the first time it was goofy-footed with my right foot forward. Being right-handed, i kind of figured if my right foot was forward it would be better...

is it really better to ride with the left foot forward?

can you ride a skateboard? If so, which foot do you put forward?

The rideplate will help the ski track better. The intake will shove more water into the pump and the skat impeller will more efficiently process the added water than the stock aluminum one.

The honest secret is to just go out and ride. Everything else will avail itself to you in time. You can ride freestyle stance with both feet back and God knows how people do that but they do and then there's surf stance which is left foot forward, right foot back. Let Victor Sheldon and only Victor Sheldon ride goofy-footed.

I dont know how you ride your SXR's but when I turn right, my right foot is forward and when Left, Left foot foward........ straight, Left Foot Forward......... IF I am feeling frisky then I might do Right Foot forward for something different...... ;)

Can you not ride this way??? Oh, wait, you have a hard time Standing Up as it is.

I guess next time i go jetskiing i'll try to stand up properly with left foot forward and i'll try turning and see which foot would be ok. :)

Now i just have to either find a cheap beach cart or fabricate one myself because carrying the superjet with two people from a garage to water a couple of hundred feet is a pain. I'm thinking of replicating one made by Factory Zero. All the dimensions are already known and it's just a matter of figuring out how thick the aluminum extrusions are.

Ride, ride ride, what feels comfortable go with it.

Just wait until you get better and you bring some buddy's out they will think it looks so easy to turn, do lil jumps etc... then when they get on they will go to turn and just tip over :Eyecrazy:

went riding again last saturday... made some progress. now i can ride the superjet on my knees and make aggressive turns without falling down. I only start to fall down when i am totally exhausted. Almost took it to full speed on a straight line. Had so much fun. next time i guess i'll try standing up and learning how to ride standing up. :)

Can someone tell me what i'll accomplish if i swap the worx dominator plate for a d-cut ride plate?

Also, should i get hood straps if i'm screwing around on flat water. i don't plan to do any barrel rolls or backflips anytime soon but who knows maybe the hood will come off and i don't want to lose it.

Do any of you wax your hulls?

In terms of oil, is there any other synthetic oil that i can use besides yamalube? My engine has about 120 hours on it and i don't think it's ever been rebuilt since 1996 (it's a 96 model). compression is 150 or 160 on two cylinders.

First post on here so it might as well be to try and help someone...

As stupid as it sounds, what helped me when i first started out was remembering to steer. i would keep leaning into the turn before turning the bars. makes its REAL unstable, u end up falling off the tray to the side and ski keeps tracking relatively straight!! had to remind myslef to steer and then lean into the turn, not the other way around...

also the throttle is your friend, saved me countless times while learning. when u feel you falling grab and hand full.
only downside is that it makes for some more swimming when u actually do fall!!:icon16:

keep at it, with practice it gets quite rewarding! soon you'll be posting about how to do nose stabs, subs and the noob favorite fountain!

You are doing the right thing by taking your time to learn on your knees. Getting the feel for how the boat turns on your knees really helps when you try to stand up. It is kind of like riding a street bike. You lean as the boat leans or maybe slightly inside.
Remember.....If you start to fall to the inside of a turn to turn sharp to the inside and get your weight low FAST. If you fall toward the outside turn outside and get low FAST. The key is to use the steering to keep the boat under you. So many people try to just balance. Also, like others have said....use a little more throttle if you are starting to fall. So.........Don't forget to steer, add a little throttle, and get low.

I wouldn't worry about hood straps right now. It's typically something you want to do if you are doing rolls or surf riding.

I don't wax the bottom of my hull.

Yamalube is fine. I run Amsoil, but it's really not a "must" in my opinion. Yamahas run forever.

You are pretty close in weight to me. Keep that Dominator plate while you are learning. It is going to be easier. The stock d cut plate is mainly a freestyle/freeride mod and you don't want that right now.

Alright.. after 4 times of riding i'm able to say that i can ride properly standing up without falling off. No more starting to ride on my stomach if i'm starting from shallow water either. I can start pretty much on my knees. Gotta learn how to turn more aggressively.

For stance, i'm most comfortable with right foot being forward on straight-aways... going to figure out what feels best when turning.

Being tall and built, it gets pretty tricky in tight turns while standing up. What modifications will help me lower the center of gravity? Will a shortened pole by 2-3" help?
