Still no major progress, but hopefully I'll have more time to get working on this again by May. I know once I see some skis on the water its going to get me rockin'. The good news is I've been working with some carbon lay-ups as part of my senior project (FSAE) so I should be more confident with it by the time I get working on the hull again. Here are some pics of what we have been working on at school (just to prove I haven't been sitting on my ass).
We had the opportunity of working with a local shop to create a carbon fiber steering wheel via vacuum bagging pre-preg. This was my first time being introduced to both of these processes, pretty cool stuff!
Here's Abbott laying down some pre-preg.
Getting the part bagged up and under vacuum.
Ready to start curing.
How the final products look.
We then gathered some materials (5.6oz carbon cloth and a few gallons of a flexible high temp epoxy resin system) and began laying up the body on our own. We initially planned to resin infuse, then decided to just wet lay and bag, and now we are just going with a wet layup since our deadline is only a few weeks away. This will at least leave room for improvement for next years team.
Pretty happy with the results for a first try, definitely learned a lot! Next step is to finish trimming and then get working on the other 5 molds we have.
