I picked this hull up last weekend from Ryan (R Pizziola) and just started prepping it for reinforcement and finishing work. I was originally planning to shorten it, rocker the nose and widen the tray, but I think I'm just going to stick to the basics for now and see how it rides this summer.

The pics are a bit deceiving as there are some stress cracks in the gel coat along with one pretty nice crack along the lip of the hood seal, but it should be good to go with a little epoxy and carbon reinforcing. From what I have gathered this hull is hand laid fiberglass and weighs about 85lbs. I'm hoping to get it on a scale here soon.

Shawn (skibum) has a nice rtr motor package for me. Ported 61x/62t with dual 44's and a girdled head.

Weighed the hull yesterday and gave my garage some much needed attention.

Forgot to zero out the scale with the straps on so subtract ~6lbs from each weight.

Got some small stuff on the way from Cold Fusion and X-Scream as well as a stock 760 with dual 44's. Also picked up some materials for the hull and started smoothing out the chips in the gel coat. In some areas there appear to be stress cracks from flexing and in other areas it seems like when the fiberglass was laid in the mold it didn't fully contact the gel coat. I'm thinking about sanding the entire hull with around 80 grit to see if I can find any other problem spots. I also found an area on the right side of the engine bay where a small portion of the fiberglass is delaminating.

Cool build, let us know how that brand of epoxy works out for you, I started using it on my rockerd SN and switched over to west system, this stuff would gum up when I tried to grind it down. It may have been out of date though, good luck with your build.

Nice! That is a GREAT weight for the Great Lakes! I wasn't really sure when I got my hull but I remember Slutty and a few others telling me it was a great weight....and man were they right!

Nice ski!

After cleaning up most of the big problem areas yesterday with a roloc disc I moved on to the DA sander today and went across most of the hull. Still need to finish some of the tray and around the pole bracket area and then Ill move on to block sanding. I also removed the piece of fiberglass that was delaminating. I'm hoping that section only separated from trapped air and not some other problem in the hulls layup. Either way I'm planning to reinforce the entire engine bay with carbon. The bottom deck and tray area seems strong enough as is, but I guess only time will tell.

I've been trying to come up with a plan for working on this in the middle of the Michigan winter without a heated garage and I decided to try making a post-cure oven. I should be able to get my garage up to around 40-50 degrees or so with a propane heater, mix the resin inside the house at room temp and then stuff the hull inside the oven after any layups. The oven will be powered with a few lights and a fan. I was able to get it sort of tacked together by myself but will need an extra set of hands to finish taping it up and moving it onto a bigger table. Hopefully it works!

It sucks trying to do large areas in this weather, the epoxy gets real thick real fast, I have been using a heat gun after wetout to get the extra epoxy out of the cloth, I'm just going to bring the Bob in the basement to put the carbon in the engine bay, I figure now is a good time to see how it makes the trip down the stairs before it goes to paint, if it fits easy, i'll take it back down for turf after paint

yeah even here in tx when im glassing in winter time i have heaters all around me and lights as close to what im glassing as possible, ive actual have a garage but its still cold as hell in there
