Lightweight batteries

The only thing I dislike about my etx9 is it hates cranking under 67 degrees or so. It has no balls when it is chilly outside....

Interesting. Have you tried another to see if maybe it's just your battery? Only reason I ask is I have 2 of them and swap them out pretty regularly running total loss. We are lucky if we get near 67 degrees at the coast and haven't had any cold cranking issues.

Actually I just found out my starter is weak so it could be that....we will see soon.

I do have 2 etx9's and they both were weak when it was cold. I mean they could crank just not for long at all....but when it is hot out they crank stronger and longer no doubt....

I guess I just miss the old heavy full size AGM's I used to use...they crank strong no matter what....

Definitely give it a go with a different starter. I use an etx9 on my 819 stroker. It's a charging system, but starts great all the time. No issues with cold weather, always spins strong.
I also ran one briefly with an xs900 10mm with no trouble. Great batteries.

Im with you on this, even in light of your starter issues. I had one, it cranked ok, but lacked power if the ski didnt fire up right away.

The only advantage I'd get out of a light battery would be breaking less battery trays. Cause I'll break a stock tray in one ride.

Yes I know how to strap it down and turf it up...

The heavy batteries have a lot of mass that stays in motion when you do a lot of flips rolls and nosedives

this worries me now... I have to drive an hour to the nearest ride spot and we ride early and late season when its pretty cold. I'd hate to drive 1 hour just to have my ski not start... maybe I should compromise and go with the etx12???

You are going to start your ski before driving an hour I hope...my Deka 9 starts the ski no problem when 48 degrees out, how cold you talking ?

Ya I definitely do but I've done that before and showed up to the lake only to have a dead battery before. I've ridden when the water was 39 and it was only about 35 degrees out.

Like 65 and below for me and it will crank OK for a minute or so and then gets weaker and fast.

A new starter will help I bet but you still can't compare a ext9 to a bigger AGM battery...right? I forget what CCA on ext9 vs the Interstate big one I used to use. (The interstate AGM match for whatever WDK's battery holder is for...I forget...)
