Lightweight hull options on a budget......lol

Title says it all. I need a light (er) weight hull for flatwater. My current hull is 150#s completely stripped, and no, it doesnt have water in it! TOO much glass reinforcing from the previous owners.

I am looking to get around 80-100 lbs.................

What are the options? Budget is 2500.00 or less.

1) I considered a topdeck, but they require a ton of work and some reinforcing to end up with not alot of weight savings................

2) Found a couple of REVS cheap. I hear they are built well but take some getting used to. This is a flatwater only boat, so the REV traits may be good for that?

3) Find a clean non waterlogged stocker and do minimal kevlar reinforcing?

4) Find a used AM hull in good shape, dry, and still light with no additional reinforcing? (not likely)

I have done some reading but am open to opinions. This will be for flatwater only................

TIA

you can be in the 90 lbs range as well as being within your budget if you go with the conversion route.

You just gotta forget about the amount of work involved and just get ur done!

I ended up around 90lbs with my conversion hull, freestylegeek was 88lbs with his XFT.

My oem hull with some reinforcing, turf, bumper, etc was 120lbs, so for you to be 150, that's got to be an insane amount of reinforcing, like an unbelievable amount to me.

My oem hull had a running weight of 298lbs with no gas---light battery, light hood (somewhat), light waterbox. I'm going to weigh my conversion this week, but I'm hoping it's ~280, so we'll see.

Start with a clean stocker and read up on what to do. FL Cracker did some stuff to his to get it way down in weight for a stocker. IMO, I would use a virgin roundnose or do a conversion like Superjett did.

has it held up? Did he use steel inserts or stainless/brass?

stainless as far as i can tell.i have not seen them.they are holding up fine/not rusty.i ordered my ski with no exhaust tube so that wasnt an issue for me.

i am now having an issue with the bulkhead.it has a crack between the one of the midshaft inserts and the scupper tube.i got a hold of jeff about it a few weeks ago and he offered to take care of it for me.he no longer builds them this way for this reason.im very impressed with that considering the hull is now two years old!otherwise it has been bulletproof, and i have rode it pretty hard.lots of big flops and upside down landings as well as a few meetings with the sand bar.

all things considered,i would buy again.

I'll post some pics of it on the scale when I weigh it again....................BUT the pissers had to be counter sunk to get to the thread..........must be at least 3 layers of 17 oz biax, maybe 4. I weighed it and thought "this cant be right, its waterlogged" and drilled holes in the back......not a drop. Foam looks dry from the front and back.

Just gotta heavy one.............

Once you get really good at riding and stuff you may come across a hull builder who wants to sponsor you??? my take if your on a budget...get good

Sponsorship availability is scarce right now, even for the best riders. The economy certainly puts a strain on these guys.

Been through the same thing with car racing....2 National championships, coverage in major mags, espn II and speedvision coverage of me and my team, and sponsors still cutting back to save $$ on the bottom line............just tough times

I do travel and ride alot, but dont know that I will ever be at the level of the guys that are getting sponsored....I have a business to run and that takes away ride time. Besides, most sponsorships make riding become a job, with contracts, appearances, and such. Takes the fun out of it when you have to do certain things...........racing was the same way. When it becomes a job, it loses some of its appeal, unless you are TC or somebody with a FULL paid deal and free equipment. Thats another deal there............:Banane09:

What do you use for a scale?
