it out there somewhere. !!! u.s. coast guard would not tow it in for us. :tapedshut:.big breaking waves all the way across the inlet. vid coming.there is over 45mins of vid of this disaster. here a short part of it.
rider of lost ski is jetli27 .
i got a rope in my pump steve ran out of gas. what a freaking day. never in my 20+years of riding have i had this much happen in one day.

what do you want me to do? go tie the rope on his ski for him? thats what we were waiting for him to do.wasnt really doing "tricks" just trying not to be the next guy to lose his boat.

i didnt get myself mopped up. i got tons of practice. lol . not much you can do at that point. my boat gets swamped i have the rope tied on and ready for pick up fast.i ride surf only i can count on one hand how many times i have sunk a ski in big waves. it happens. this was just a wicked out going tide with an 30mph wind. that just held him in the break forever.this is in the middle of the inlet.

if the sun was going down and the uscg didnt make us go back in we could of waited for the tide to change.

i meant with the rescue. gotta give a few tips for all the people watching, no need for a lost ski, especially in those conditions.
dont let go! you need to stay close to your boat to keep it upright and floating, if a wave comes and you dont got a death grip on it you gave up. sometimes you cant hang on, so swim to your ski!! you have no time to waste.
its your responsibility to save yourself and your ski, never expect someone to come save you. if your swamped and have to tow get your line hooked up and be ready to hook onto another ski. this has to be done FAST, 10 seconds is all your going to get.

we will be looking 1st light.kind of figure it will be west of the inlet. we were in jones inlet. rockaway inlet is the next one over. tide was going out with about 2 hours to go.

you are exactly right. The other four of us out there are pretty good at that kinda thing i have a rope in my front foothold and wouldve had it tied up holding it for somebody to yank me outta the break. he had his rope locked up in his fire extinguisher compartment. Then he didn't want my rope. Kev hasn't been out much this year and got caught by that one wave. it was all over for him after that. Then I tried towing the sunk boat in. Wouldn't work. we would've had two downed boats.

also watch the vid at 1:02. he told me to get back on my boat while I was trying to right kev's sunk boat and i got mopped by that next wave. head down in the tray, grab the bond line on both sides with the death grip and hang on. rode mine away. Kev had a wave and a half to get to his ski and get it started, it just didn't happen for him today.

Keep in mind we are at least a mile and a half away from land at any side.

ok i understand that 100% but dont tell me that a 10 ft wave picking you up and then crashing you down wont separate your ski from you. i dont mean to hate at all but nobody here was in those waves. everyone might say that they have been mopped up in worse, but it wasnt those waves that they were mopped up in. i understand that you should have a death grip but dont tell me i shouldve held on more. none the less the 5 sets of waves that were behind it to push the ski further im a very strong swimmer used to be a life guard at a beach not to far from there and no matter how strong of a swimmer you are, its the OCEAN, your a micron compared to it. and it will do whatever it wants to do with you and you will NEVER beat it. it happens to the best of us and nobody should say otherwise. things just went wrong everything from the rope to my dual 800gph bilge pumps failing (they were both running when i left the ramp) caused this to happen.

on another note hey ryan weres my roll did you get any of it on camera give me a little pick me up lol

Who gives a flying !@#$ bout a ski when your stuck out in the middle of an inlet with a sunk ski and getting repeatedly pounded by waves
Ill hold my head high saying all those guys helped me get safely on land and the hell with the ski
Theres always another ski waiting for me to ride out in the inlet again

+10 cool points for a good attitude. sometimes losing something gives you an opportunity to get something better.

besides if you learned something threw the experience then it wasn't a complete loss.

You only get one life!
When you are out there getting pounded by waves and don't have the strength left to even climb back on your boat, a few thousand dollar ski doesn't seem all that important anymore.

That being said it sure seemed like somebody could have got a rope on the back of that thing.
