Mag Pumps Are Heavy

Just wieghed my 140 12 vien mag next to a stock pump and WOW.
wieghed in w/ prop, stator viens, shaft and little cone on back of stator vien housing.
MAG PUMP 14#
Stock 8#
And add the extra wieght from the 140 mag wear ring vrs. 144 stock wear ring and your near double the wieght.

The pump makes a huge hook up difference though. But is it hurting my stab hieght and other freestyle tricks?

I wonder what a TMB pump stuffer wieghs and if its hook up to wiegh ratio is better than the mag? I know the mag hooks up better, but which is the better of the 2 for freeride freestyle?

Anyone tried both?

Hmmmmmm, wonder why not many freestylers use them now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you got the power to overcome the weight, then it ok... (Malone, Lenzi, and others of that calibre).

TBM is pretty light.

It's probably hurting your freestyle.......I'll trade you for a stocker.....it will help you out.

HA HA, I know it hooks up seweeeet and would never go back stock pump w/o a TBM and Skat Swirl, but not sure the wieght gains overcome the hook up gaines. In surf I would keep the mag no question, but on flatwater ??????????????

The 140 mag is a race pump. What I have been using is a 144, 12 vien std set back. Use the carbon rear cone from Skat. Weight is less then a pound above an oem.

WE are using the TBM on Parrdaddy's boat will great results. as for the prop, Impros concord 13-16.......... Good to better hook up.........
The Mag still wins the anti-cav debate!

Charles (crammit442) and I had a pump swap day where we played with various versions of the 140 mag pumps and Skat props. By far the hardest hitting setup was a 13/21 Skat swirl in a 12 vane setback. However, it was only a little better than the 14/21 (in my opinion it wasn't worth the loss in top speed for the minimal gain over the 14). I had been running a 15/23 in my 14 vane setback and changing to the 14/21 was a night and day difference. Although the 14/21 was in a 12 vane (we didn't swap props into the different pumps) I don't think there is a big difference between 12 and 14 vane pumps.

Wax, I am surprised that you are running a 16/20. Have you tried a 14 or 15 primary? Are you doing this in a race boat? Our boats weren't too shabby in the power department either and the 13 and 14's really made a difference on arm-pulling power to the water. The 15 and 16's really drag it down relatively speaking.

yeah its in a race come surf boat
it will blast out fo the hole like no other surf boat i have ridden

I might try a lower pitch setup in my pure free ride boat

its pulling 7200 on a limited b-pipe
when i put the type 9 back on i will depitch it to allow it to come on harder in the low

We been doing it for a while even before the TBM Super Pump Cone. The 75mm hub is the trick. Plus it's a 144mm not a 140. or a set-back! It's Freestyle not racing. I like the set-back but it does make the ski act differently which I'm surrprise that a freestyle guy would like it? It works awesome & much lighter. :arms:

Hey Kevin, So the hub is smaller? I am confused. So is the difference noticible between the setup you mention and say a 13/16 Concord cut back? The Impeller just swaps right in with all other stock components?

Thanks

the mag prop hub is much larger than a standard prop. It kinda fools the pump into thinking that there is a Mag Pump there!!!!!!! not really, but suppose to work really well, especially if you use the pump cone also (TBM)
