Making of the SNX Hull

The hull looks great and the pole looks great but they are two different styles and IMO do not look good together. (no disrespect meant)

The shape, both look really good in their own way but the hull is very angular with hard lines and the pole is smooth and rounded.

I know what you mean. The goal was to tie the pole lines into the top of the nose which is rounded, while the hood follows hard angular lines on the side of the nose and hull, while gently sweeping back. You can kind of see it better in these pics.

But I do agree that there is something that doesn't flow exactly like I wanted. Pole might need to transition into a harder center line as it reaches the steering end. Almost triangular.

Regardless, your work looks amazing, I imagine that once the ski is turfed and assembled it will be much less of a contrast.

Assembly is wanting to fight me on every step. Bars are the wrong size for the steering (oops), so I'm ordering 6061 stock to fab up an adapter. Grips had to be sanded out some to get them on the bars. Steering cable holder needs to be adjusted back about an inch. Had to fabricate two brackets to get the trim cable aligned properly to the ring. For whatever reason, the LED that I wired into my bilge switch setup was not allowing enough current to the bilge pump. I had to troubleshoot that and then burn out the epoxy used in the switch housing. It's all little tiny details that are just taking a huge amount of time.

Had to order new m12 bolts for the pole along with several different types of nylon and ptfe washers. I think with this pole setup I need to get nylon or Teflon washers In between every steel washer. Also, there is significantly more torsional movement at the tongue than I had expected. Looking at my design, it makes sense. The transition from having the side walls on the bottom half to a flat tongue puts a lot of stress here. I'm going to pull another pole with a 3/16" 6061 plate extending down 2" into the body of the pole and beef up the carbon around this area to 150-175oz, while removing one of the layers of 20oz uni from the body.

A mold for the coupler cover will be on the list after that. I just can't bring myself to put an OEM coupler cover inside this hull.

I'm actually going to order up some extra carbon sleeves to build a few of these poles to sell as prototypes to get feedback on. They won't be completed until after I test this next pole. They will be sold almost at my cost for materials in agreement to provide me constructive feedback. If anyone is interested in being a guinea pig, let me know.

I'll measure tonight, but I want to say it was 38" from bolt to steering stem. I think I posted it a couple of pages back.

Sending you guys a PM about the pole and cost. Plan is to make 6, one of them will be on my ski for initial testing. Once I am confident that the layup is sufficient, I'll start on the other 5 to get feedback on aesthetic, bushing/washer system, how it works with different brackets, etc.

Dimensions are:
Pivot length (bolt to stem): 37"
Total length: 39.25"
Width at pole bolt: 6.625"

I will be including an assortment of nylon and ptfe washers and shoulder washers, along with SS M12 socket cap hardware.

Pole came out great! I noticed that it does not sit on the back of the hood, could this be an issue if you come down too hard? Seems like it hits the front of the hood and may break if too much pressure is applied or do you plan on putting a bump stop on the hood that is tall enough to stop it from touching the front of the hood?

Thanks! There will be a pole pad. It does sit a little too low in the bracket area (holes on the pole were drilled a 1/4" too high), but the reason it is so high at the turn plate right now, is that the limiting rope eyelet is too large and interfering with the pole. I'm going to get a smaller eyelet or relocate this one. The replacement pole will have the pole bolt holes located slightly lower, raising the bracket side and lowering the turn plate end. I am very happy with how the pole came out, it just needs some little tweaks.

Thanks for the support from those interested in testing for me. As of right now I have 4 out of the 5 test pole that will be made confirmed.

Plaidward - Red
Jackmarcus - Light Blue
txsuperjetfreak96 - Blue
bobob729 - Blue/Black

If you had contacted me about participating, and are not on that list, please PM the color sleeve and confirm your spot.

Thank you guys again for the kind words and support.

Well I wish I had some cool update to give with first ride impressions, but unfortunately it is still in pieces. The assembly has fought me every step of the way. It's been 10 steps back to make one forward. Some of this is just standard new build stuff with parts from different companies needing little tweaks, some is from me having to modify some parts I created, and the biggest thing has been from an error in the pump jig setting the bulkhead distance off by 5mm. Lesson learned there, don't assume somethings. Anyway, almost all of it has been sorted out. With any luck, it will be on the water tomorrow.

Sleeves have been ordered for the test poles, and the 6061 plates should arrive early next week. Plan is to have the new pole complete by the end of next week/Monday week after. I am really looking forward to getting these out there to hear some feedback from you guys.
