That was the one. It'll be at the Carolina freeride too. We'll make sure to have enough waves to make it worth a trying out this time around. We had 6 footers on Monday and calling for 4-7 foot this Sunday.

Rode this hull yesterday Chasingdaylight's, I was very impressed and surprised how well this light hull carved. The tubbies work like magic and allowed very tight turns with outstanding control. The hull was very light and flickable in feel and then when you switch to a surf stance it's ready for speed and carving. I would love to try this hull in surf now. Fantastic work Tom !

this has been a very difficult year so far. My son has been having physical problems and has finally been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome. We have been going to doctor after doctor and finally have just got back from a 10 day stay in the hospital for treatment.

At the same time I have to take on work to keep pace with rent and phone etc. This has been a constant battle to get thru the work to finally get a minute to work on the hulls. Its extremely distressing as the time keeps getting longer and longer and while the patience of the two gentleman who are waiting has been generous, I am sick over not being able to stay on it. I have at this point both tops, bottom, bilge walls and one hood top and liner made. I have the bar stock for the inserts on hand and the inserts machined for at least one boat.

I have one nose piece to make and then am caught up. I have just put rent and phone for the month on a new credit card to buy time to do nothing else but work on the 2 hulls and finally get them done and end their long wait and put me out of my stress at the shop.

I have had a situation where a customer forced me to split my time between the hospital and making his part or risk a chain reaction of financial problems that I wont be able to overcome. I have to change the way I conduct business now and will be switching to more like a store setup which I have been trying to do since I started. Time and money, I never have either and have always been chasing one or the other or both. I cant continue like this and its not fair to have people wait either. So I will make parts ahead and sell what I have. If someone wants a part not in stock they can put a wanted post or pm. but I will be switching to making parts before and not after. If I cant get it done in time and lose out that's just how it will be. If this results in my not being able to support the shop then that's that. Its not worth the 12 to 15K I make to have people wait and stress over making parts especially when I don't know what the future holds and when I have to drop everything for family.

99% of the people I have sold to in the past have been great and when I have been slow most have graciously cut me slack. Some squeezed a bit and I don't blame anyone for wanting parts they paid for. I am not sure how people perceive me but the truth is I have 2 single car garage spaces that I work from. One holds molds and hulls and parts, basically storage. the other is the work area. its full of shelves on both walls and is basically a narrow space of 6 x 18 feet and is a nice hot florida garage. I work alone. So every part is made by me. all paperwork, materials gathering, parts making, boxing, and dropping off to shipping is done by me. Its not a manufacturing facility with multiple people making parts its one guy. When I get sick parts don't get made, when I have to do family things parts don't get made. I haven't been on my skis for over a year. I didn't even bother to register them this year.

I am not trying to get sympathy, I am just stating the facts. this is what it is and this is what I do. Life has been changing and I have struggled to keep pace. I have to get a regular paying job to have a steady paycheck to start paying back hospital bills and maybe this will work and maybe I can finally get time to work on the many project molds I have already started but never finished.

At worst I will have to find some way to downsize to one unit and sell just enough to be able to make parts still.

I am very thankful to all the people who have purchased parts from me and most have taken the time to drop a line and tell me they were pleased with them. Quite a few have spread the word and gotten a lot of their fellow riders to order parts too. I cant tell you how grateful I am.

thanks
Tom

I just did a little reading about SPS... thats awful Tom :( . My heart goes out to your son and I hope the doctors can help relieve his symptoms. Its not until you have kids of your own that hearing about other peoples kids having health issues really pulls at your heart strings.

I dug up this thread because I was wondering what ever happened to this project. I hope you can get this hull rolling eventually. And I wholeheartedly agree with selling what you have in stock.

But look, if your not making a killing and you're not having a good time doing what you do, than I think we all would support you following one of those paths.

Either way, you're a great asset to our community and I think a lot of people would support you no matter what.

Here is Toms latest hull. I got slammed right after getting the hull so it took a little longer than planned to get it on the water, but now that I have I am in love with the thing!!! Tom did a really nice job building it and did some personalized work for me like shortening the gunwhales, foothold install, etc. The build quality is impressive and everything lined up with no shims under the engine, and only some at the back of the pump. The ski feels very fx1 ish BUT much more stable, very light and flickable. I am running an HPE809 with skat 140mm mag pump, the combo absolutely rips! Can't wait to get it in the surf at oside soon!

Tom, really sorry to hear about your son. I wish you and your family the best. It's been a few years since I bought my fixed steer hood off you but you were a huge help then getting me set up. I had no other options and I still appreciate your customer service.

Latest update / report?

I have a decent amount of time on it but not as much as I should. Fought multiple electrical issues for awhile and lost some motivation but finally bought a new MSD, OCD coil & stator, and it has run great since. Overall combo is awesome but I do think a bigger mag pump would be nice...thinking about a solas 148 but we'll see. As far as the hull goes it is extremely fun and handles great. Nice and small, light, and nimble but I've ridden it for miles at a time and even a couple times burned a full SJ tank. I would like to try a finned ride plate for a little less sliding. Also shortened up my xscream pole more and really liked it, definitely need to go shorter on the plate and all the way on the pole as the footholds are a little too far forward still. Also planning to add a front foot hold and rear strap. My biggest complaint with it is just the lack of room to work on anything! That is partially my fault though by running SJ tank and limited chamber. Litterally have to pull motor to get tank or chamber out

Wow 2014 seems like so long ago! Lets see
Son finally got on monthly infusion treatments and has improved to almost what i would thinkvhe would be without sps.
Still has some limited range of motion and is too thin. But hes doin normal high schooler stuff so im very thankful for that.

Moved all my stuff into 1 unit and all my crap is bulging out of 2 sheds and garage.

Got a ft job overnights at home depot to bring home a regular paycheck. Money problems- if you got em or had em you understand. Became shift manager. Didnt sleep much for 3 years. Pretty sure i had some cognitive problems from that schedule.

Opening w county came up. In my 2nd year as a park ranger. Much happier now. Im still dumb as a rock but i think my brain recovered. Still have memory probs like cant remember stupid things that are easy and i know i know them. Then again im getting older so who knows? Lol

I have been making parts the entire time. Just not hulls. I still have several projects in the works but honestly im sure im fooling myself that im ever gonna have time.

3 teens- 1 in college,
1 dual enrollement(which is hilarious that she will graduate hs and be a few credits shy of a bs and her brother will then be even when he had a 2 year headstart)
1 junior in hs.

Needless to say we have what looks like a used car lot parked in front of our house as everyone goes diff directions at diff times. Some are newr some are classics. All need maint or restoration.

Sold a rental weve had for years cause for an entire year we did not have a single decent human being fill out an app for rent.
To avoid losing a good chunk of cash to taxes we got a nice house to rent as a vrbo near the rainbow river in dunnellon fl.

So things are about normal. I have too many responsibilities and dont want to stop making parts, cant stomach selling molds fir fear of somebody makin poop parts and having that be connected to my name. And the thought of just cutting the molds up and tossin them in the trash is about as appealing as having dental work done via my rectum. So i do what i can as im able and try to be up front about it. I can sometimes crank out a few parts quickly and sometimes life has other plans and im effed. So yeah.

Thanks to every single person who has ordered a part.
And to those who have helped me by promoting my parts
And to my friends, the close ones and the not so close. A friend is a friend and i try to not take that for granted.
I have a few people on the site who have been ordering or installing parts for years and years and i try to cut them some slack so they can make a few bucks on the part. Bastards never take me up on it! You guys are the best!
Thank you to this site because without it i would not have met any of the cool peeps and gotten to do any of the things i have. I would prob have ridden that pos 650sx til i got bored and quit. Circumstances are very funny that way.

So thats 5 years of fun behind me. I think i rode like twice in there. My kids were in middle school and i had gotten a day on the water w a standup w each of them and then poop got real. I managed to get 2 of them back out recently. Not sure if i can make it a regular thing but i dream about a nice sunny day w some sweet smallish rollers and my kids all tearing it up. Well that daydream and the one where im really hungry and just sat down at hooters and the waitress is bringing that ice cold pitcher.

Ramble enough for ya? Im not dead, im not done makin parts, im not considering stopping developing new parts as ive promised a local buddy ill make him a blaster seat since apparently 701 has gone dark? Wtf?! Those guys had some good poop. I still love the challenge of making something new. I just dont have a ton of time.

I have EVERY MOLD i have ever made and can still make every part. I choose not to make adj footholds cause its a ton of work and honestly theres prob 2 or 3 better options. I would love to make more fx1 but its something that takes a good deal of time. If i could i would believe me. I dont have one for myself! I am scheming and planning and it will happen just not sure how yet

So thanks for the concern. Things are good
Maybe if the red tide goes away and im iff i might get to ride the back of one of these hurricanes!
