Try competing when you know the only way to wow the Judges is to do nothing but rolls. Panama City, Nov 2006 I got so frusterated that my 2nd run that is all I did, one roll after another..........

I posted this old skool video from the Westcoast sponsored competition from 97'. Look at my other 4 video's that are from the same competition. Rick Roy, Lloyd Burlew, Ken Wood, Bobby Biggs. Eric won the comp and took home a purse of 3K. Rick Roy got 2nd.

He's a hell of a rider, but it looked like the ski had NO power.

The freestyle arm pump annoys the crap out of me no matter who is doing it. I would understand if it's more for yourself after you nailed a trick that you never thought you'd nail in a competition, but I hate it when guys try to tell you when you're supposed to be excited about what they're doing......especially for an easy trick. I realize that it's part of some rider's style, but I think it's cheesy. Land a flatwater double roll and I would understand. Of course I'd already be cheering anyway.

Freestyle is cool to have at races as like a second competition and its fun to practice when your in flatwater.
...but I think the Surf Freeriding is what is going to make it big in the future. I also think all the big races need to be moved to the surf to make them more fun to watch. bigger crowds, bigger sponsors....etc etc etc.

Arm pump is called showmanship..
Surf races/freestyle pose too many problems, including hard to set up close due to tides and waves, hard to get crowd close to action because of changing beachfront.. I had a surf event cancel on conditions and this cost everyone involved..
Just look at our Roar on the River next week and St. Clair Riverfest on Aug 1st -- crowd is on boardwalk, then 20+ feet deep freshwater to ride in-- crowd is close to action and VIP tents 100 feet away, no changing tide, well attended existing event with everything in place... local media covers event, no law issues (at last year Roar on river the coast guard made wakes for us), crowd loves action, and the list goes on..
