Alright, this hull is done after Surf Slam.
Been talking to Berky, and it looks like I'll be going Superfreak for 2011. :headbang:

Hull, hood, and pole are tentatively sold for pickup at Surf Slam. :woot:

I will take some pictures there to close this thread out. This hull has served me very well over the past six seasons.
While I am not 100% sure yet on layup, I do believe I will be going with an extra strong all-carbon Superfreak. The hull should come in under 60lbs (compared to my current ~125lbs), the hood should be 8lbs (compared to 14lbs now) and the carbon Superfreak pole should also be very sweet and light.
All together, I hope to be dropping 75-80lbs off this setup for next year.
So what if I have to work a second job and go hungry every now and then.
It'll be worth it.

I cannot wait to see what my Jetworks motor setup (which rips in my current heavy hull) will do in a Superfreak. :headbang:

matt, did yamaha start using the high-density polystyrene foam on the later model superjet hulls like the kawis? the handlepole on mine has tough styrene in it. I haven't cut into the hull yet.

The RN pole has had polystyrene in it since 1996. They have never used it where it counts, unfortunately.

Just Wait until you put your motor in a light hull! I put my ADA motor from my heavy pig LPW SJ into a Superfreak, it was like having another 100cc.... Lighter ski bigger prop now!

Your gonna enjoy that light ski!

I didn't. Despite my countless previous ramblings advising the opposite, I am taking a leap of faith here.

matt is the 125# after you refoamed and shorten the rear just hull no hood or nose piece ?

Matt

When you put the rideplate inserts back in, did you just redrill the ride plate to fit? Did you leave it std length or cut it down 2" as well?

Sorry if its somewhere withing the 26 pages; I can't find it!

A stock rideplate has bosses that can be drilled about two inches in front of the rear holes. (Alternatively, a stock Squarenose rideplate has those already drilled as the Squarenose uses six mounts, not four).
So either drill those or use a stock Squarenose plate. I bolted the front two holes down, then drilled the hull through the extra ride plate holes. That way I was able to use stock rideplates and most aftermarket plates.

For the first couple of years, I left it at stock length, but with a D-cut.
Eventually I cut it flush with the hull and found flips a bit easier off v-wakes that way. But it wasn't ideal in the surf - recovery after jumps took a bit longer.
I got myself a stock length Blowsion Kenney Lip Ripper plate and just bolted that on whenever I went surf riding.
