Finished deturfing with the harbor freight multimaster. I love that thing. Then I changed attachments and started hacking on the footholds. It worked awesome and fast. Best $30 I ever spent.

I took the plunge on the footholds. I outlined the footprint difference with the changes I have made so far with a black sharpy so you could see the difference. I'm tempted to go farther but I would prefer to maintain the recessed lip for the turf edge. I may cut it flush with the recessed edge and attach fiberglass to the inside instead of the outside to change the angle and give myself even more room. I may recess some sort of a toehold into the ankle area for surfstance too. I may even cut into the front left area under the front foothold into the bulkhead to give myself some more lateral leverage on my front foot too. I ride surfstance mostly so I figured I should give myself as much lateral leverage as possible.

The multi tool makes life a lot easier, especially removing turf.Pretty close to being rated the worst job to do on a ski.The only exception would be installing an exhaust chamber that is good and oily mixed with exhaust waste that won't fit!

You done " gone and done done it this time " . That is about how far I cut mine . I think I had about a 1/4 of an inch for the turf to recess . The bottom radius of the inside gunwale is what I was talking about leaving . Remember our conversation . You may need to add some material back to the bottom for support. I did on my stocker . Good Plunge to take . Worth the work .

I've really gone and done it now....

It started with cutting out some more room for my front foot. Then I realized I could use some more vertical room in the footholds so I could use 25mm pad on the bottom and not have to shave it down for my feet. Then I realized there is a lot of foam in there and I would rather have polystyrene. Next thing you know I have ripped the whole tray out. Lots of work ahead. I hope this doesn't add too much weight to the ski to get the tray back together but with starting at 61 pounds I have a few pounds I can fudge without really noticing it. I plan to get this tray as close to perfect for me as possible. Then I'm more likely to keep this hull and not spend a buttload on a new badass superfreak.

It does get confusing. This is my main ride. I bought a WDK REV/Superjet project hull that will be my wife's new ski.

He's going the distance .... he's going for speed .

Since you are using poly in the tray are going to do a little reenforcement in the tray area / bond line. I don't think much weight would be added if you use carbon and use 2 pound foam in the top gunwale area . Calculate the area you will be reinforcing , pick a cloth weight and figure the same for the resin. That should help you make a decision . 1 pound of cloth = 1 pound of resin and so forth . Look at Spruce aircraft supply , They have a spray polystyrene kit . I have no info on it , but I will.

I had planned to use 12 oz biax cloth for the foothold mods but I guess carbon would make sense now that the whole tray is involved.

I want polystyrene pieces so that water can drain out of any place it might leak in the future. The gunwhales will keep the foam in them and I will use 2 pound foam to shape the foothold areas that I cut out. I will put just a little 2 pound foam on top of the polystyrene to lock it all in and make the tray stick back into place when i'm done.
