Mine looked sick also, especially when I pulled it back off to see why my bendix broke, found that it didnt have enough clearance for the bolt on the rad flywheel and had ground up alum shaving from the cover in it. comparing it to another stock front cover I was using it doesnt have the recessed spot for the bolt,if any more a produced they really need another 1/8 to clear various setups

Which bolt are you using to hold down the flywheel? (I know, this is a stupid question). Picture on left or right?

Here's another one....Question, Why do the Bendix's always seen to self destruct with RAD flywheels?

MasterBlaster, where you by any chance running a washer under the bolt ?

Ive checked clearances with OEM, msd total loss, jetnetics charging and a Rad total loss flywheels both styles of retaining bolts (in my possesion ) for the 701 motors measure 12 mm in height, so I am at a loss as to why this happened in your case

admittedly most all the aftermarket flywheels have changed over the years so It is passable yours is thicker than the ones I tested with

Didn't it seem weird when your flywheel cover wouldn't go on all the way?

Silly question but, can the Crank "walk" like a regular engine? Seems more likely that something else is wrong doesn't it?

the crank has 2 thrust clips and a couple thrust washers right?

I was wondering that also, if so ignore my first question.

It is the bolt on the right, small type head and uses a washer. It didnt seem like the cover went on that hard, the alignment pins were tight so I pulled it in evenly with a small 10 mill ratchet,It snuged up with very little effort and did make a seal,no water got in it. I dont think these type cranks can walk with the 3 pin locks they have. I will try switching to the other type bolt. The covers are identical in every way except that recession in front of the fw bolt,so im just thinking if you make some more, just cut a little deeper recess in that spot just to be safe.

Flash, the rad FW had been working great with the ring gear pins you put in it,It timed out very close to true TDC as well.I used the timing light with digital advance and rpm buttons so you could read it. I used 25 deg as static at 2000 and tested the msd enhanser at high rpm and was getting 4 deg retard out of it. It ripped hard off idle,I was running half 110 and half 93 in the flats to tune and 100% 93 oct in surf and it was fine, plugs looked great as well as piston tops and plugs.
