Just for craps sake....how long did you wait to take that apart after the faliure? Just wondering how long it took for that rust to show?

One day---the motor was being used in salt water at the time of failure. I pulled it the following day.

chic what motor is that???

The "pre-Protec" motor from my first Wammer boat (blue, black, and silver one). Nothing really special about it---2002 Superjet motor with head, pipe, and ignition.

I dare say you lucked out, in the midst of carnage.

Best I could tell, the front seal failed, caused and air leak, and "BLAMMO!"

That motor, although a limited, seemed to have more than enough punch...:frown:

i had a 550 engine that got water in it, that water put a little extra pressure on the crank. it snapped right above the piston and put a nice hole throught cyclinder, hit the starter and broke that bracket. it was a while ago so i dont have any pics.

shelled crank bearing......cases and cyl survived...

i also have a HEAVIY ported X cyl that split the cooling jacket with good jugs left over..still trying to figure out what to do with that one...

mine was almost 800 cc with porting and to much compression for pump gas.

my 701 was close to doing that too though... stock engine from 94 waverunner that was still running original pistons. I'd say I was a good ten minutes away from grenading it. Had 120 and 140 psi when tore apart.

the two pics are of the same piston, opposite sides of the intake skirt.
