as far as Mongoose goes, it depends on which frame you get, they have the ones that WM sells (Junk) and they also have their upper end stuff, which is not so bad.........

Yup, don't ditch the Mongoose, and they also make a middle stuff like my Tech 4 which gets me around nicely. Mine was priced at about $600 a few years ago, got it for about $450 after the price match from Sports Authority, it included the RockShox and all.
You can get it for a lot cheaper now.
I actually love it (for my needs).
Just set it up for your height and weight and put some blue locktite on the rear spring nut.

you can spent 4k plus on a mongoose, walmart just carries the cheapos. mongoose black diamond and tacolis have 5 star ratings on MTB review
