MSD flywheel question?

Just got this with a parts lot I picked up and the guy said it would work with a total loss ignition and OEM charging system...never heard of a flywheel that could be used with both. Was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this flywheel for me and either prove of discredit what he was saying. It is consdierably heavier than a jetinetics TL flywheel so that has me thinking...

Some of the markings on it are...

M5 printed on the hub just under the MSD
30 and a 3/95 stamped on the underside lip.
There are also 3 timing marks on it..one TDC and 2 advance

Will probably also be looking to sell it so anyone know how much it is worth?

How much does it weigh, and have you compared its weight with a stock yamaha flywheel? It looks like it has charging magnets but I do not see a trigger magnet like the TL flywheels.

Haven't been able to compare it to a stocker yet and not sure exactly how much it weighs...the guy mentioned soemthing about earth magnets?? Are those just the charging magnets or something else?

He probably meant "rare earth" magnets. They are made from neodymium and other rare earth elements. They are very strong so you can use a less material which makes the assembly lighter than if you are using conventional magnets.

It's an aftermarket, charging, light flywheel to be used with the 61x
stator. MSD sold a bunch of those back in the day when people raced
stand-ups. It compares in weight to the now also discontinued RAD f/w. They do work, I'm using one.

i see two tiny magnets (count the holes in pic two... theyre easier to see there).

BK sent me an identical flywheel a while back.

it has the magnets on the outer part of the inside (you can verify this with a nail. see if the magnets draw it in)

the two tiny round magnets are for TL.

So after a second look it appears this thing has a crack down the hub where the keyway is...so is this thing still useable, junk, or repairable??

how big is the crack? theres is always the possibility of relocating the keyway if stress cracks are showing up

You could probably have the center section turned out on a lathe and mount a steel OEM style hub on the front.

I'm sure it would be easy to find someone with a damaged stock flywheel that the hub portion would still be usable.
