My $1200 96 SJ build

Location

Well finally after watching craigslist for months I stumbled upon a 96 SJ which I ended up getting for $1200. The ski fired up annd the compression was 150 in both cylinders. The pump and motor seem to be in great shape but the hull def needs some TLC. I plan on building the boat for the surf. Since there was a small crack in the side I decided I better defoam.

Yea I saw an old post from boris and someone else and it looked like it was easiest way to do it. Hey boris when you reinstalled the tray did you foam up to like the bondline then glass it back in and foam the rest?

No, I completely glassed the tray in so it was good and strong, than dumped the foam in through holes that I drilled.

I used scrap aluminum in the front and the rear to keep the tray level with the rest while I glassed.

The next hull will have even more of the tray removed and than maybe no foam at all.

Once the tray was out and I did what I wanted to do in there I glued in some aluminum strips(one on the front and 2 in back) . That way I could place the cut out tray down onto something solid and flush with the remainder of the tray.

See the aluminum in the front ?

It has R&D stamped on it...I can't find much info on it though b/c the damn search feature doesnt allow 3 character searches like "r&d"

I'm not keen on the idea of using the oem bilge line for a second cooling line. I was going to do that, but decided against it...

However, I would do that if I had a scupper.

Hey boris...Any pics of the holes you drilled when you were getting ready to add the foam?
