My 2016 Rickter Edge Build thread

I spent the 2015 season on a Rickter FR-2 and loved every minute of it!! Flipped it for the first time in Daytona last year. Hit Wavedaze, rode the whole spring/summer season locally, and then ventured off to the west coast for the Grayland Open and Surf-Slam where I competed in AM/Pro class for the first time. After a full season of beating the heck out of my equipment I finally caved in and thought about retiring my ski and looking for something new.

I had the chance to test ride dozens of boats in my travels. Pros like ZB, Gomez, Pete McAfee, Tanner Thomas, and Taylor Curtis. Not to mention all the awesome locals from Oregon all the way to South Florida. It's not easy making up your mind after riding some of the best skis in the U.S.A!! I'll be the first to admit I'm crazy picky about ski setup. I know what I like! I was looking for the highest quality, best value, all around ski.. One stood very high above the crowd. The Rickter Edge!!

I made a call to Taylor over at T.C. Freeride and let him know I was serious about getting on a new Edge. He had what I was looking for and was ready to ship immediately. California to NewYork Within 5 days the hull was in my hands!! No waiting games, deposits, promises, Yadda yadda. Just top level service!!

To make the deal even sweeter Taylor offered to sponsor me for the 2016 season! Yeww!!

So here it begins..

Wrapped up legit, awesome packing where not one blemish was found!

Red/trash graphics are pretty mellow. I really dislike the tribal tattoo, skulls/bones B.S that's all over lately and was even a little iffy about these at first.

Such a tease! Good thing I've been busy plowing during snowstorms all week.

Started masking off the top deck so I can prepare to fit the hood and setup the hood seal tension. Highest quality hood seal in the game period!!

Yes I'm a little OCD. It's one thing smacking it up while riding. I'd like to keep it fresh while wrenching!!

Awesome ski, congratulations !!! I picked up a trash black/blue one last week from Blowsion - only a few hour drive from home. Question - I'm thinking of replacing the flap-style scupper with the Thrust EZ Drain (versi plug ball type) - what are your thoughts?

Keep us posted on your build and I'll let you know how my pump shoe fitting goes this weekend. Got the cast aluminum shoe that needs a little grinding to get it to fit perfectly.

I run the overall brand large versaplug made to fit our Rickter size scupper tube. I don't even have a bilge pump.

What pump shoe did you get? I'm using the Worx racing shoe. Gonna start to line it up tomorrow after work.

Congrats on the new hull and even more so on the sponsorship deal. I wanted to love the edge when it first came out but i honestly hate the way it rides. My fr-2 evo with tubbies just feels nicer especially in the surf...Just my 2 cents i guess!!
You can't knock the build quality from Rickter though... they do take some beating.

Good luck in the 2016 season! Will you be coming to europe for the IFWA?

Congrats man! I got one from TC last winter and he was great to deal with I'll buy more hulls in the future from him no doubt. Mine went together as good as oem and I been loving it. They can ride so fast and aggressive in turns/wave faces if you don't hang on hard you'll throw yourself out the tray.

Glad to finally see a Edge build. They really do have the best fit and finish. Congrats on the sponsorship and looking forward to seeing this thing sky

Congrats man! You made the right choice for your riding style. Not many hulls can survive the surf abuse this ski will go through :)
Important detail, James runs DASA 1000cc power plant. The edge becomes alive with a stroker power.
Congrats on the sponsorship!
Long Island boys will be dominating the freeride scene 2016.

Made a bit of progress on the build this evening.

Got the Dasa 1000 and Ebox out of my FR-2 along with the B-pipe, RRP water box, and exhaust hoses. New motor ran flawless down in Florida, stoked to stuff it in the new Edge.

Built a new mid shaft with all new OEM parts.
I'm sick of these ADA kawi style couplers so I'm trying something new. Found some OEM billet couplers w/ urethane dampener . Definitely beefier, let's see how they hold up.

Also test fitted my RRP lightweight pole. Installed the bushings & checked tube length. Gonna have to remove the pole bracket to install the pole spring tension block.
