You are not a rescue professional

Actually Darrin - I am - fully certified by K-38 Rescue for swift water, open water and tow-in rescue, and use this training and knowledge on a regular basis...but that's besides the point.

Like Nick said, let's focus on the positive. It was a great event. I just don't want to see anything bad come from a sense of false security at these sorts of get-togethers in the future. It might be wise to recognize the liability this guy brings to the table. That's all.

Lisa, I am sorry, not to disrespect Shawn, or your training, but it looks like you are judging someone who you know nothing about (no first hand knowledge) other than by word of mouth, and what you know about him, you have not actually posted anything of substance....... Maybe he stretched the truth about some competition against Shawn not realized just how small of a community we are.............. As for first hand knowledge of his abilities, several have posted how he helped out, so, It seams he got the job done........ Remember, there is always someone better............ I am just glad that he donated his time and efforts to help out............

That was my buddy, He had a bunch of issues that day.
He was a day behind, because of how windy and stuff on Sat.
and then he got over head and was having Camera Problems
and had to use his home digital camera. He was upset about
it... He said next time it will be better pics and vid.

yeah, i don't think the cold and wind that weekend was good to anyone lol...lemme know when you get some time i want to run a thing or two by you...

No disrespect taken from you at all BK. Please understand that with a little background/fact checking, you will discover there was an individual who completely misrepresented himself to this crew. We stumbled upon this completely on accident.

I care about you all, and don't want to see anyone get hurt due to his misguided ego trip. Don't kid yourself into thinking this sort of thing hasn't happened before; it's nothing but detrimental to our sport. It's unacceptable, and I won't be complacent when it could result in injury or death to any of you, much less feed into our sport's adversary’s negative image spin.

You and I can discuss the particulars of the person off line if you have any questions regarding the validity of my comments.

Carry on...

With regard to you Mr. SFL....as usual, you have no clue what you're talking about and decided to attempt to cover your imputance with a smart assed comment. When you've taken the time (most recently a solid week in November) to get certified by the best in the world, and consistently use that training in competitive and rescue/safety situations, I will start to believe you might know a little bit of wtf you're talking about. Until then, please keep your uneducated piehole shut.
whats wrong, lisa? i was just stating that i liked the cookies and brownies that you made. they were dEElicious!

but now that youve mentioned it, you werent there. i was. WE were. if youre going to base the safety of over 100 riders based on a split-second snapshot, youre way off base.

that guy was on the water for no more than 10 minutes the entire weekend. he stayed on the beach the entire rest of the time along with a couple of other beach patrols. he wasnt out couching around all weekend in the middle of a standup freeride.

he didnt "represent" himself as anything other than "patrol".

everyone else that was there is saying the same thing about the patrol. why are you taking all of your frustrations out on me, specifically?

more importantly, whats up with the beach patrol dude thats so bad? nothing you have stated here proves anything.

It's been 9 days. Hopefully I'll be good enough to put a wetsuit on next tuesday or I'm going to be screwed in my advanced SCUBA class. :aargh4:

Speak up ,don't kiss azz
I think were just lucky no one needed any serious help cause he wasn't working most of the time and when he was out on the water it was as if he wasn't working then either .

He obviously wasn't on duty or he would have been sitting there watching everyone like a hawk instead of hanging out, riding and having fun .

I thought the guy was mega cool for sure and Nick has a great thing going with the beach patrol there and we all need to preserve that for future rides at THE ZONE. :headbang:

please define "working". how long was he riding his honda? i didnt see him out there for any more than 10 minutes. and, so what if it was more? im sure that if there was a situation he wouldve handled it appropriately. i have no way to prove or disprove this since there werent any incidents and neither does anybody else. he was hanging out and doing his job. he and/or the other patrols were there the entire time making sure peace and safety were kept. maybe im just not getting something here. can someone fill me in on what this guy did or didnt do that was so terrible??

I think what hangtime meant was, he wasn't on duty, so there was nothing wrong with him having fun with everyone else. Correct me if I'm worng, I never spoke to him.

You know, I saw beach patrol pull a ton of people when they got their vehicles stuck in the sand, but they were curiously absent the entire time the 'sclade was sitting there.

Lisa definitely knows about the BS that can happen so do heed her advice....
I look at it this way even if he was having a little fun, we being so used to dealing with idiots on barges thrashing around, the "see and avoid" concept is second nature for most of us. Bottom line .....never rely on anyone else for your safety.

If you read back through my posts, you will see:

My original comment about the photo of what any professional First Responder would refer to as irresponsible and wreckless operation of rescue craft.

That comment illicited several other comments - pro and con.

I PM'ed Nick to apologize for any negative vibe my post might have had - it was not my intention to drag the event down.

During the course of several off-line discussions, this "rescue" individual's experience and credentials came into question. It was discovered that we do indeed play in a very small world - one which he apparently was not aware HOW SMALL was when he started telling stories. I'm quite confident Shawn couldn't care less about his claims of competition with her. Where I know she has big issues - as well as I - is when an individual claims training, experience or certification they do not possess - and then attempts to use this skill set on unknowing folks such as yourselves. His actual participation as a First Responder in that particular natural disaster was nothing like he conveyed. No humans dead or alive were involved, and in fact, he was actually told to leave due to his unprofessional conduct.

I viewed SFL's post as inflammatory and negative (as my initial post apparently was buy a few people here as well - NOT my intention). Since he has a history of making these sorts of posts, I got pisssy with him in return. Now he clarify's his post, and changes tone. That's fine.

Bottom line is this: They "Rescue" guy was found to be (after the event) not at all what he claims to be. This is more dangerous than you can apparently imagine, not only for your personal safety, but for the image of our sport.

Suffice to say, he's what we call a "Dangerous Volunteer" and unless he can provide verifiable certification, he shouldn't be allowed to endanger any of you, or future rides.

I hope that answers your questions....now, about that gash - did you try the Dermabond?

i didnt change my tone. you changed your story. had you said anything that had any kind of merit whatsoever, i wouldnt have even posted. you didnt. you came here bashing the guy's riding based on one picture.

now you have additional personal info about this guy and his qualifications, but this was after the cookies and brownies.

Whatever. You choose to see things whichever way you wish. The facts are the facts. Go ride with this goon; it would be an excellent case of natural selection.

Now runaway and go amuse yourself with some more 420 action.
