SX/SXi/SXi Pro My first SX

Hey whats up guys, i acquired my first stand up last fall. It was a 92 750sx with very low hours thing was clean and had a few things done to it. I learned the basics last fall and have gotten much better this summer and im wanting to mod my ski a bit for my riding style. Well im not sure what the previous owner has all done to it.
Looking at the bottom of the ski it has a PJS ride plate, and im pretty sure it's got a different intake grate im not sure what brand though. The engine, i can tell has a oil block off plate, as im running premix, has a different flame arrestor as well. I think that's the most that's done to it engine wise besides a bilge pump that's broke (need to get this figured out).
The exterior is all stock, stock turf wich was like brand new when i got it but i've worn it down so need to be replacing with some hydro turf. It does have a different throttle on it, and im not sure if it's got different bars and a quick turn plate?

Here's what i'd like to do with the ski for mods
-Since it's a 92 i'd like to run an advanced timing plate. This will help with bottom end correct?
-I'd like to get a different ride plate. Im about 5'10" 190-200 lbs and i feel like this one is for a smaller rider. Im not sure what a good one to choose is though.
-Id also like to get a intake grate that grabs hard. I love turning and carving on some glass and my rear end always slides out.
-I wouldn't mind getting a quick turn plate either. If it already has one though i don't need one.
-Would love to add a pipe after i get the other things i want done first. I'm thinking a factory pipe but i see a lot about coffmans as well. Could someone point me in the right direction?
-I need to returf my ski. I would like to turf over the purple bumper rails or paint them black? My plan is to eliminate all of the purple and it will probably get footholds and paint this winter.
-I'd also like to run some sort of foothold. Im not running anything right now, i seen some people say use lifter wedges from blowsion, or i was thinking the straps actually. I could install them quick and use it the rest of summer and install real footholds in the winter.

Here's my riding style and what i mainly do with the ski. I live on a smaller lake. Get's real busy on weekends though, it's like 10 minutes from a 200,000 people town so everyones out here on saturday and sundays. I'll take the ski out on these days and do a lot of jumping, and trying freestyle. During the week i get home around 8 and the lake is just glass as no ones out there. This is when i love to cruise some buoys and carve some turns. It doesn't get real rough out here either though, your biggest waves are rollers from a 22ft boat and on windy days your waves are no bigger then a foot.

Looks like you got a quick steer plate already
as for future mods, I like the R&D aquavein intake. Hooks really nice. I would suggest a R&D extended ride plate for the smooth days you want to carve and a flush cut and D cut plate for the weekends when you want to jump. You could always cut up the pjs plate. For the turf and rails I would just sell off your rails and turf where they were, its way easier and looks better. For holds, youll be fine with lifter wedges for the summer and then throw some holds in it over the winter when you re turf the tray. diggers are sweet and easy to put in.

Great looking ski btw, looks minty!!

Thanks man! I'll have to check out that intake and plate and probably just d cut this plate. I just need it to grab harder in the corners i guess. I have moved further back turning and it's helped but the rear end still kicks out pretty easy. Will that intake grate help with that?

Yes, that grate will stay hooked better and a longer plate will help too. Another thing to help is to try and keep the ski a little flatter but keep you weight off the side. That will help keep the pump hooked.

Yeah i'll try that when i get back out and ride. Also do you reccomend a timing advance plate? I know they say not to run them on the 95+'s. I want some more low end snap

Nice clean ski and welcome to the X. Makes things a lot easier and more fulfilling when you start out with a solid boat!

I'm running straps, see post #122..... http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/104465-New-Sxi-Pro-Owner&p=1229452&highlight=#post1229452

Timing Advance: yes definitely. Check your compression, perfect stock reading is 150 each hole. Milling your head (with Group K, look them up on the net and peruse their site, great info, call and ask questions) to raise the compression (to 170), Factory Pipe is important and use a Water Control Valve with it, (big gain, snappy response on low end)!

I use a Worx Extended rideplate with the R&D aquavein/top loader grate, good combo for my 205lb, 6-1 body. Skat Trak 9-17 big hub is a great purchase, a must. Tubby 2s are a must, IMO. I also got a sweet pole which is -3 and is designed higher when down then stock, once again great/must mod, IMO.

I'd do first-
Rule 500 gph bilge pump (w/ on-off switch on bars)
rideplate & grate
prop
head
time adv.
Tubby 2s
Factory pipe ($$$) & water control valve
footstraps- anytime

And don't forget..., ride, ride, ride!

Thanks man, i needed something exactly like that! Would the longer ride plate also help with the nose bouncing? When im just crusing on flat water the ski usually starts to hop.

The nose hopping/bouncing is called porposing. I believe ride plate and grate can be a factor, and in relationship to body positioning for/aft on the ski plus just lotsa ride time will help or eliminate this. Try to get your front foot to the front of the tray and the rear foot somewhere to the rear. Your body/chest needs to be forward, over the bars. Ride time will help, along with smooth throttle control. Conversely, if you stab the throttle out of the hole your chest has to be way forward immediately. Play around with body positioning, think forward and lower vertical center of gravity.

You need to walk more towards the front of the ski, then after you are standing as far as you can get forward, lean forward as well. This will keep the nose from bouncing.

I find it difficult to ride this far forward cause the stock handlepole is so long. I think I'd love to do a sj pole conversion moving It a inch further and a little shorter pole

Once you get your balance down you'll be able to ride with one foot forward full throttle and leaned over the bars. No more bouncing like that.
You'll want to get a extended plate for it for ruff days, I don't know how long the pro series is.

Looks like a 93' to me? that's the stiker package that came on my 93 in 93', 92 has more yellow on it!!! Unless you got a 93 sticker pak or something?... Anyway, your fuel lines look kind of tight?? You do have the waterproof bilge switch under your start stop switch.. Lookin at your powerplant, I am seeing what all those little stock brackets are for in my shop (19 years later) from when I did my Factory pipe, carbs etc in like 94? learn how to position your weight to stuff the pump (insert aquabrain grate also ) shouldl help alot, that boats a tank and really shouldn't porpoise, you'll figure out the footwork.. I am currently lookin for another (unmolested) one in the 93- 97 range and trying to find something that clean is been pretty difficult, looks like ya did pretty good,

I agree about offin the purple though.. J.

Hmm could be a 93 i guess haha im not real sure to be honest. And it has gotten quite a bit better the more i ride. I usually like to ride both feet together towards the back of the deck i feel like i can get more hop by pushing down the rear of the ski.

I get paid friday so i should start ordering some parts. Might have to start a build thread or somethin.

Try putting right foot forward in front right of tray and put left foot on the back, I usually hang the back foot half way off the ski.. It's all balance... Have fun with your new toy..

Edit: maybe I ride funnay???

I'm a -3 from stock, love it. Helps with everything. Although if it was a couple inches more forward it may be too uncomfortable since I am 6-1, too much of a stretch or lean forward. So I guess it's finding your individual sweet spot.
