My own business?

I know this might be a stupid idea, but I'm just sick of my job and financially it isn't working out.

Anyway, I was curious if there would be any interest in stands, beach carts, maybe even trailers. Eventually I would like to make full on fiberglass ski's.

I know I don't know everything about stand-ups and I am still a newb when it comes to jet ski's. I would like to get opinions and suggestions? I want to know if anything I make would sell and if there is a market out there for them?

And, possibly some idea's that you think would sell/people would want?

Thanks, Hagan:biggthumpup:

Carbon trailers would be cool!!

And I have always wondered why no one makes a full carbon B1 hull....

But then the RC1 prolly kills that idea.

I don't know man...it seems like a pretty saturated market these days.

I would steer away from the jetski market. It is to flooded with aftermarket hulls and parts. At the rate things are being redone you will build a mold..... produce a handful (if they sell) and then have to start looking into redesigning a new mold to keep up with the competition

i think they werent race legal.. and cost too much $$$$$$

but back to the thread.. beach carts etc are a good plan.. i looked at doing it and found that based on how much people want to spend and how much they cost to make its very difficult to actually do a viable business where you could actually make a living, i costed them out and even looked at selling them at cost with very little interest

good luck man... where theres a will theres a way

Then what market would you suggest getting into?

If you get the equipment to do trailers, stands, beach carts ect....... there are allot of other things you can do with that business. You can reorganize to do docks, pontoon boat accessories, boat hoists, boat house frames ect.

Yep, Yep, Yep... Unless your farming it out in China, or just have pleanty of people that want what your building, its a tough market.

find a way to cut down the cost of the wheels (for beach carts) alone and you will sell some. Anyone can have some fab work done pretty cheap.

I'll likely get killed for this....but, we are a relatively small market. If you're gonna try to make a living, then you can't ignore the couches.

There are members on the "x" doing what you're talking about. There's good advise here.

Rice burners... Crazy kids will buy anything for a civic! The nicer the car, the more you can charge too. Doesn't even have to be light, only has to be cool looking. Look at carbon fiber hoods for various cars. Doesn't matter that it's made of fiberglass with a super thin carbon layer on top and weighs more than a steel hood, "that shi*t looks pimp yo!". lol

In all honesty though, in todays economy, I'd highly recommend you keep your job and maybe try making a few parts on the side to see how you like it and how successful you are. You aren't to get rich making jetski parts. Even a $4000-$5000 hull probably has $2500 in materials with thousands in original setup costs. Let's not forget about man hours required to make it and the potential of waste... If you mess up half of a hull, then what? I don't ever want to discourage competition and innovation in our sport but sometimes, we have to look out for each other.

I have a long life ahead of me and I want to spend it doing something I enjoy. I will see what I can do and if I do decide to make something i'll make sure to post it!

Couch repair business is going pretty good around here. People are more likely to repair them now rather than drop $10k on a new one.
