Custom/Hybrid My seriously overdue SF build : Some random pics

So I bought this amazing carbon hull from Tem in 2011, a JM 781 motor from Chris and various odds and ends. Its an absolute pleasure to deal with both of them throughout this past year and a half . Jan 2012, about the same time my crate arived, my son was born....and that took care of my build time for about the next 12 months. Nothing got done.

Wow, you all have had some trying times over the last year huh. Glad thats panning out, you deserve the freak rewards soon to come bro.
Congrats and congrats.

Im glad everything is going great for you. He looks like a happy healthy baby. I bet you guys are relieved and proud as hell. I'm a new father of twin girls and can tell you it changes your whole outlook. Now get building that ski so he has something to ride.

Thanks very much, trying times indeed, but happy times again.

so ebox plate is done, also serves as backing plate for brap strap ratchet

Fitted threaded inserts both sides of the scupper tube to block it off.

figured if 2 bilges cant not keep me floating, then neither will the scupper . On balance the scupper has much more downside in the surf .

also wanted some grab holds on the inside rear gunnels... (we drag our skis quite a lot through the shore breaks)....used polystyrene, covered with kevlar and glass.

Glad to see you finally building it! and glad your son is doing so well now!

Ebox bracket looks good, but not sure how those handholds will affect handling??

also mounted 3 cable tie holders on the inner RHS of the hull to hold exhaust hose, elec cables, and gas tubing. Used some kevlar and then a layer of carbon to clean up the look again (3 red arrows)

stuck down a rubber pad ramped like the jaz tank to fit snug, and also through hull drilled in some stainless marine grade hooks to replace the stock onse which some SF owners have had rip loose.

tks Chris

I kept them as small as possible....my experience reference point is RN and SN, so i doubt i would even feel the drag, if any.

Got some under padding done before turfing the sides.

of so far.

Next step i used the masking tape trick picked up from one the the members (great idea, thank you !!) to map out the whole side panel as accurate as possible to shape the hydroturf ...pictures to come.

Template made from masking tape on........ hope this works

cut out on the way....yikes

24082013137.jpg

success........ the template and heat gun and grease proof paper..definately the only way to go.

not bad for a turf noobe.....no joins, no cuts, just one piece either side.

almost there....gray padding to come for the tray

Thanks again for all your tips and pics Sanoman .very much appreciated ..it really made the job soooo much easier and it could not have come out any better than it did....its perfect even if i say that myself.....to any members out there....follow the tips on the forum and you do fine.....this was my first turf job.

Our little boy is just a really happy camper these days....we feel blessed. His sister was riding 440 standups at 8 years old,.....so he has to beat that....no pressure hey.

Just heard from Chris (JM) that my 4 mm DASA is almost ready to ship, great news and timing. I already have the JM 781 to use so its going in next weekend. (the 4 mm purchase was a result of addiction to just buy more stuff when you cant wrench or ride, timewise).
