When I had my Quigley Van in Daytona, I had several inqueries about my setup for carrying my skis. I made a waterproof tray and then made 2 sets of sliding runners so each ski can be managed separately. The tray is simple, just a sheet of high grade 1/2" plywood with a 1x1 perimeter piece routed in a 1/4 round shape then glassed and gel coated.
The rails are PVC with uni-strut hidden inside and they ride on strut trollies. The trollies are mounted to some custom fabbed aluminum mounting/pivot brackets. This setup lets the ski slide in and out with a finger tip touch and then the whole rail setup tilts down to align with my beach cart. It carries both of my FX-1s with ease. Once the skis are slid into the van, there's urethane nose pin brackets with quick release pins to secure the skis. The nose pin brackets are mounted to an aluminum cargo box I used in place of the bench seat. I mimic'd the factory bench seat mounting brackets to secure the box, so it can be removed in about 30 secs and the bench can be put back in if needed.
The box is is used to secure the nose of the skis and also storage, Oh yeah, it also houses a 22 gal freshwater poly tank with an on-demand high volume pump so you can hose down your ski/gear (or yourself!) at the beach.
It's really just a big orange toy box! :woot:
Here's some pics I took while building it and then some in action:
