Or better yet something like this that allows some horizontal adjustability for when different skis are taken

Interesting, didn't think of that. My only issue with a something like that is that I need the center post to be in the exact center so I can get every spare inch out of this trailer.

Why not bolt through the decking with u bolts to the trailer or is the decking spaced? Your idea would work too.

That would work but the cross member is going the wrong direction. If they were parallel I could just bolt a horizontal bar on top of the decking but because its perpendicular I don't think there's a way to bolt it down?

Can you remove one piece of deck and weld the center upright to the frame then cut a square hole in the deck and reattach ?

Or leave the deck attached and cut the square hole above the center frame a little larger than the upright and weld your center upright with the deck in place

That wouldn't be a problem at all, I could even U-bolt it to the center support but then im not sure what I would do about the outer posts

Only problem is I don't want to weld anything like that directly to the frame. Id prefer to have it removable for resale purposes if the next owner wants it to fit two couches again

And I cant U-bolt it because they would be perpendicular

Unfortunately I dont predict the cost being too low, Probably over $300 for everything since I don't have the time to weld it myself. What are your thoughts on just drilling holes into plain old square tubing for the posts rather than actually buying pre-made ones?

Should be fine, maybe just do a few in the general area you'd like adjustability In or a little more. You. Could even drill all the holes if you wanted too. I don't see a need for holes all the down to deck level or all the way to the top of the post though, just enough to give the adjustability you'd like to have

I got my eyes pealed for down signs so far they have all been round tube and none on my lot at work, will have a look in my scrap steel pile later tonight

True, no need to do more work than practical. Are you familiar with metal prices? Debating about going aluminum over steel so I wouldn't have to powder coat. Im guessing the money I save from not powder coating would cover the difference in prices

here where I buy "steel" its sold in 20 ft lengths. It's $7 per cut if you want it cut or if too long for you too transport. Virgin steel and aluminum is expensive. Angle iron for example 1 or 1 1/2 wide by 3/16 or 1/4 thick is $23 to $27 bucks about per 20 ft stick

I bought 2 sticks of 2x2 box for my trailer modes and I think it was $80 and did the cuts in the parking lot for transport

Good question/idea though, you'll need to locate your local metal supplier and get some costs estimates together once you've got your design finalized and materials list build off your design

One thing I should mention when you purchase the metal, they have scrap and remnant too, just gotta ask so they can see if they have any or enough in your size requirements. It's cheaper than virgin

Good to know. Thanks again for all the help Harbor! I will post pictures as I start getting it together. And ive got a few more improvements on the list including repainting the tool box, was thinking it would be cool to coat bed liner on it but I got enough going on now, ill start on that in a couple weeks

No problem always glad to help. One more thing on the steel, if you go that route, Orchard supply has some smaller sticks of steel that could possibly save you some money if you don't need a hole 20ft stick. I've seen box tube in their store as well as other types of steel, they seemed like the best selection as compared to Home Depot and lows. In my area they all have some steel selection
