If your cheap by a WDK. I have damaged one pretty bad though.... the lay up is as cheap as could possibly be. The fit isnt to great. Your getting what you pay for.

The best quality hood I have seen for a SJ is the XFT. This would be my top choice for a SJ Hood. Best materials, nice fit, and nice finish.... the guy knows his composites.

Have you noticed how XFT uses black paint to hide edges and certain contours of his lay-up? I have noticed this little practice on his hulls he is having trouble with the carbon and hides the oops under paint. This came into the light for me once I started studying composite infusion you notice things like that.

Check out this infusion, it is off a composite forum I visit I like the way they incorporated the glass in the the part. This would be killer looking on a hull and hood.

I have had 4 hoods now since 2003, make that 5 hoods.

Hood 1. Old School wammer, bought it used from wammer, would not breathe, he let me send it back for credit on a new hood.

Hood 2. 8 hole wammer. It did everything a hood is suppose to do and did it well.

Hood 3. Blowsion JK hood, this thing was bulletproof, but for flatwater hood tricks, it sucked, but it is not really a flat water hood. the shape of it does not work for weight distribution, I borrowed a wammer hood and I was back doing hood tricks with no issues. If all you are going to do is ride in the surf or never do hood tricks, this is a great hood.

Hood 4. Wammer 2 hole hood. It was much lighter than the 8 hole hood, the liner came loose right off but it may have been from where the hood got blown off the back of the ski at daytona.

Hood 5. Came on my current hull, old school wammer. harder to climb up on from the front because the hand holds are not a 360 degree design like his newer hoods. But the hood works really well for its purpose......

Hoods that I have not owned but used. 24/7 hood built by Chris Maros. This hood was the standard for many years when you though of a hood that was perfect....... It did everything very well.

Hoods that I will never own.

WDK, the handhold design looks like there was zero though in how the design should be, like they drew 2 circles and then connected them with 2 straight lines. Plus, I have yet to see one that looked like it would hold up, I have seen several that were the liners were coming out.

WCF, They look good, have a clean design, but for some reason I just do not like them.

I cannot comment on the XFT, they are incredible looking but I have not riden a ski with one.

how about fingerprint indentions in this hood??? I dont think I will buy one of these.

I dont know if Pat X-metal/X-scream is actually selling his new hood yet but I saw it at Dayton and it looks awsome. If I were to get another hood that would be it. Pat takes a lot of time in the design stage of his products to get them right. Just my 2 cents. My 2nd choice would be WCF or Wammer. I have an 8 hold hood now and have no complaints.

Dont worry so much about which one to get... just get the one that looks the best to you, and if you are worried about cost- then get the cheapest... as long as you get lowered and a set of handholds... thats what you are going for... the real high price ones will be carbon fiber... if you can afford that-then the weight savings is also a big plus... everyone has their favorite... you will not get a unanimous answer here... its like asking people which softdrink is the best...

or beer or women. get what's right for you.

I have seen that visual carbon hood that was posted above and i have never seen any handprints on it, it must have something to do with the lighting from the camera

uh, lighting is not going to distort the direction of the weave, ......... This is not a structural issue, just a cosmetic. Just thought it was interesting......... Heck, I have fooled with some carbon, it is a bitch to work with.......

i recently got a wdk setup and it was like pulling teeth getting jeff to do what he said. its ok though i knew what i was getting into when i ordered.
the hood looks good structurally, fits in the seal perfectly. im not running a latch, just ratchet straps. the finish is pretty dull.
imo
budget = wdk
rich = wammer

Lighting and direction can make the weave look very different and sometimes distorted. From a picture like that there's no way to tell structural, cosmetic, or anything else definitive(nor who did or didn't make it). The only real difference with carbon is that it doesn't clear when saturated. More difficult to be sure that all air is removed. Very difficult to make hand laid visual carbon parts. Even Maros had a good bit of air entrainment in his visual parts. It's almost impossible not to.

actually wammer is more middle class........... 24/7 and XFT would be rich!!!!!!!!!

Actually, a complete XFT X-7 hood kit is only $100 more than a complete setup from Wamilton. All epoxy and bagged too.:burnout: That's for the visual carbon hood. The glass lower end models are $250 cheaper than Wammer(and still bagged epoxy/cored construction).

cool, have not looked at XFT pricing in a while.....
When I got my last hood, he was selling the hood and nose for around 700.00

That hood from that pic is straight from EBAY.

That there is exactly why it is my top choice. To many people on here have no idea what they are buying.... thats why most of these guys are still in business :tapedshut:
