New 2017 Kawasaki 4 stroke sx-r!

I might be the guy they talked about in the video...a little older, can afford the toy. I've been riding for over 20 years, like a lot of us, starting with a 440 and currently on a round nose 701, a 1996 with about a million hours on it. I might be in the market for a new toy...and you can't buy a new 2 stroke any more....my SJ is still in decent shape, with a few well earned dings...but

I don't race, and my rec riding is river or lake, with surf only if I'm having a really good day. :) I live near water so I'm in a lot. The 440 jumped off waves, the 701 is a bit more stable but when you are out in the middle of the river you won't mind a bit more. I've never done a backflip (on purpose, but there have been surf related rollovers...it would have to survive those), and unless they come up with an old timer's class I won't be doing buoys except for giggles. I don't care what happens to the "race class"...just not relevant to me.

I'm guessing that this thing won't be 440 toss able, but with massive power will be fast, and in the middle of the river, a lot more stable...which isn't a bad thing. The horsepower will probably take care of the weight issue...I notice no one has done a power/weight comparison, so if you double the HP but add 10% to the weight you are still ahead.

Kaw did the same thing Yam did...the 701 motor wasn't special to the standup, it was a well proven drivetrain already...no need to r/d an engine when a good one is on the shelf, and you are selling to a limited market. I'm convinced that the standups were done in occasional production runs, with only BNG every few years.... Also, they know that these will be modded from day one. I hope it isn't a flat riding buoy boat...I get a lot of wind driven waves, about four feet high, and big rollers when tankers go up river. If this is nose down all the time, it may as well be a seaCouch.

A four stroke ski will also allow this to go to a lot of places that banned first two stroke skis, then all two strokes. I'm sure they know the size of the market that will buy these. There is also a small group that will just want to buy new skis, having no interest in wrenching or even flipping the hood. I'm not that guy but they exist and have money to spend....

Don't forget that lots of folks, many who own lake houses HATE the Braapp and know how to go to Town Board Meetings in the off season. This ski will be quiet. I personally think Kawasaki shot us all in the foot at the beginning of the Sport because the first 440 and 550 skis were stupid loud..I had one and MY ears still ring....had they done anything to shut them up, we'd probably have a few more places to ride. The eco-nazis are one thing, but what caused trouble were folks who used to have a quiet place on the water and then got 8 hours a day of angry chainsaws on the water. They could have spent a few $ for quiet.

I've got an open mind on this boat still.

My wild ass guesses over, someone else can post.....

How substantial are Pro Watercross national events compared to the IJSBA events? Maybe people will start to migrate towards that if IJSBA insists on ruining things.

Other than World Finals I would say its more substantial than most IJSBA sanctioned races. We have yet to see what rules they come up with for the new Kawi.

I think rosses races in region 1 pull the most total racers by a long shot but its almost entirely amateur racing. prowatercross has close to a full line for proski, but much fewer amateurs.

btw your GP sxr with an old sit down motor in it is going to get crushed by these things . that's why they are getting rid of limited. because the new kawi will dominate stock and gp. so we end up with four classes two stroke lites & two stroke triple then four stroke stock & four stroke open

In all seriousness thank you Kawasaki for trying!

In the Spirit of this fine election season.... You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig.

Seeing a person ride the ski confirms my thoughts.

Back in late 02 when the SXR 1st was released I was all in and sold my sxipro right away and waited for my new SXR to come in may.
This time I'm going to wait and ride it 1st but i have to say I'm really looking forward to riding it. I really like the idea for new ski, I haven't bought a new stand up since 06. I also really like that's a 4 stroke and will get get mpg for cruising

They increased the tank size almost 50%. I wouldn't be too optimistic about saving on fuel. It may be the case, but a bigger heavier hull will create a lot more drag. It's not quite the same as switching from a KX125 to a KX250F. Boats love fuel.

Yea I talked to one of the Kawi guys at the booth and he was basically saying the same thing. Don't expect to go riding all day on one tank.

Tera was basically praising that you don't have to lean it over as much as the 800 to turn, and you do not have to get wet. Finally, I can stay dry while on the lake! Sigh......

I do agree with her it will be easier to cover distance. It's more of an in-between from the classic stand up, and a couch.

It does look really fast flat out, but after all it is a lot of heavy hp.

60mph feels like 60mph no matter what you fall off of.
You're more than welcome to use the SLO key. :p

I've had 60 MPH race skis forever. It's normal now. Falling at that speed isn't my concern, it's hanging on that I think about.
