New 2017 Kawasaki 4 stroke sx-r!

They have to produce minimum 500 identical units in order to race it. There are exceptions I think though if the manufacturer produce under 500

They do look large but I agree, the color scheme is making it very difficult to get an idea of the size from the video.

Mercedes will do a scatter wrap with black and white on their cars and suv's made nearby, you will see them and honesly, it is hard to focus and get an idea of the body lines. Second rider looks like a kid, which will make the ski look longer than it really is.

I'm sure they'll have no problem getting it homologated. This might actually save racing so the last thing the IJSBA wants to do is throw road blocks up.

I think the only issue is displacement. Its not legal for any class with if its a 1500cc motor. They'll have to change the rules for that.

That is true also.......... Oh Well. Maybe stick with dreaming of an SJ for stock class racing again. Or maybe everyone has the wrong engine info and it is the 12F motor or a new smaller motor (Not sure if the 12F motor would be legal either, dont keep up with the rules anymore).

It wouldn't be legal. 1100cc max as furnished by the manufacturer. But if anybody can have the rules changed, Kawi can and will.

There's also the possibility that they have a new motor.

The 15F motor seems a tad on the large size and about 30HP too much so I agree that the 12F would seem more appropriate and more realistic...

Until you look at the specs on the Benelli B3S Extreme. 435lb ski, 1602cc engine rated at 180HP!!!

Benelli offers theirs in two sizes so it will be interesting to see which version Kawasaki has chosen to compete with.

They're not competing with Benelli or whatever name they have these days. Those skis have never really surfaced like they were supposed to.

This is exciting news anyway you look at it. Glad to see they are producing a new ski. The unfortunate reality is that the sport will never be what it was in the 80's and 90's. There just isn't enough interest from the general public. This is why prices will always be higher for a simple stand-up than the Sea Doo Spark. You can sell a sit down to anybody, but you'll never move enough stand-ups to reduce the price. Hell they really don't sell that many sit down PWC when you compare it to the Motorcycle, ATV and Side x Side world. The sad truth.

That's only true if they don't repurpose the components. If seadoo can reuse the motor, pump, everything from a spark, only using a different driveshaft, throttle, steering cable and pole/steering, they could have very affordable prices.

i haven't read every post on this thread and maybe this has already been said but IMO

#1 This is a game changer. It brings stand up jetskis to places in the world where 2 strokes are frowned upon or illegal.
People think 2 stokes are a pain in the a$$ cause you have to mix gas. But its a 4stroke so you can just fill it at the pump when you get gas for your truck or boat or whatever.

#2 Obviously Kawasaki has figured out a way to keep water out of this new (or old) motor otherwise they wouldn't sell it to the general public. Yeah sure no one knows the price yet but if its half the cost of a hydro used to be...... they are already on top! AND more than likely wont it blow up in 10 hours.

#3 For some people financing toys is the only option which puts most out of the used market for say a 199whatever stand up for umpteen thousands of dollars. And for some other people they just want hassle free and dont want to deal with "old" stuff. My wife has customers at her work that buy new seadoos and new skidoos every year because they just want it fresh.

#4 This may be the next step into making jetskis more affordable for everyone just like the spark. Maybe kawi and yamaha will come out with less expensive models of the 4stroke stand up.

I called my local Kawi dealer..... He doesn't think they'll see more than 2-3 when released... I'm #1 on the pre-order list.
He said sometime in mid October, when he gets confirmation, he'll call me for deposit.

Typically not into being an early adopter... But the wife wants a stand-up ski now.... so why not?
I had just started a search for an 800SXR... but one in good shape in our neck of the woods, is 5-6k+
With the Spark, we'll have 2 ski's for our annual Tahoe trip.

Did they have any idea on price?
