Super Jet New Build ....95 Square nose / 96 Raider

A little about me....I worked in a small shop in So Cal in the early 90's. That being said, I haven't had anything to do with ski's since then. I have always wanted to get a Superjet and get back into it but time, space and other hobbies always got in the way. One of the guys at work got an X2 and that kickstarted me to get going on this. My plan was to buy an old non running 650 and put a 701 motor into it. The Craigslist trolling began and here is where I am. First, the trolling led me to a free 96 Waveraider 760. The outside was a little rough but the motor fired right up even with the old fuel and the outside cleaned up with a heavy pressure washing. I guess the 701 will now be a 760.20131114_175504 - Copy.jpgNext, I was back to Craigslist to find a 650. Luck was on my side again and I picked up this with the trailer for $350.20131126_180541.jpgOf course,I am going to need some parts so, I scored a 650 motor and electrics for $50 again on Craigslist. I feel like I went from nothing to a hoarder in a matter of days. The Superjet is in poor shape and needs a ton of work but it does have a few really good points. 1. Factory B pipe 2. Al Handle Pole (MMF I assume). The plan as of now is to build a super nice Stand Up and get together another reliable motor to put in the Raider. Most of it is already broken down and I will post picks of the good, the bad and the just plain ugly later this weekend or early in the week.

I am a total mess. I just bought another square nose for $150. I just couldn't say no. So far, the Raider has been all good. The motor and electrics are in excellent shape and it looks to be in excellent shape less needing a top end. I will break it all the way down and powder coat everything before it goes back together. I am leaning towards something like this for the powder coat. I keep trying to match this powder but when I put it up against this engine, it doesn't match. IMG_1095.jpgThe Superjet on the other hand has been a disaster. The guy let it sit with an inch of water in the hull for years. The whole motor is corroded and the condensation got in past the reeds and whipped out the bottom end. Also, the electrical system is smoked as he had water in there as well. Luckily, My spare motor has a perfect electrical system. The B pipe finally had to be drilled off but I was lucky enough to save the threads on the manifold. I still haven't been able to getthe adjusters out. Does anyone have any ideas? Here are a couple more pics.20131127_082033.jpgIMG_0467.jpgIMG_0469.jpgI have a few questions for the experts since I am going to the raider motor and B pipe. 1. What type of cooling...stock, dual or 1/2"? 2. What pitch prop for free riding? Any other wisdom on a build like this?

That purple and pink superjet you picked up comes stock with a 701. That's either a 1994 or 95.

sweet deals dude. your well on ur way.
contact Jetmaniac for a bpipe water screw kit. he sells over sized screws with bit n tap to drill out frozen ones.
he's got good stuff n top notch service.
I'd run dual cooling. just tap the pump n manifold for a second 3/8 90.
I like to run dual bilge pumps.
check out OCD solutions. he's got some trik wire kits.
welcome to the addiction
good luck with the build

Thanks for the info guys. It is a 95 but the plan is to put the 760 motor in this ski. It is currently being gone through. I am waiting on some more swatches form Prismatic powders Does anyone know what they were coating the pipe portion of the B pipe with? Was it high temp powder coating of ceramic coating?

Attached is the current state of the 760 motor.

As for the supercharged motor above, anyone who has been around long enough should know what that motor came out of.

It was out of one of these. The disclaimer is that this is just a mock up for the office display. There aren't any more running supercharged 650 motors that I know of but, there is a running supercharged 4 cylinder 2 stroke. I think that the non supercharged version was in a Nichols Trident PWC. If anyone knows why the photos won' upload as anything but an attachment, I could use a heads up.

As for the b pipe. Take the head pipe to a fab shop and have them weld the stainless nuts that are on the adjustment screws to the screw. The heat from the weld will break them free. I have done this numerous times it works.

This thing is really corroded but I will have one of the guys at work weld nuts to the set screws. I would rather do that than drill them out larger and use the repair kit.

IMG_0469.JPG interior with pva.jpg I have just been doing a ton of work on the hull as it was so bad. I added a second cooling line, added some reinforcements and general hull repairs and gave it a quick gelcoat to seal it all back up.

Well...I am bringing this thread back from the dead. Life happened and the project was mostly shelved. It did move ahead but slowly...really slowly. Essentially, I did what I could a little at a time. Finally, I have had some time and money to move it way forward. This is the result of a couple weekends of hard work. On top of the paint, the engine is mostly done, I will post some engine pics as soon as I find the files.

I didn't get a ton moved ahead this week. Mostly, I went through my stuff and found parts / made lists of things I need. Here are the pics of the engine. It still needs the head to be milled and the carbs to be gone through. The bottom end was inspected and new seals installed.

Here is the original superjet engine and pipe.

Well, I still suck at updating this thread but I have been moving forward. As of now, I am getting really close. Over the last few months, I have put most of it back together. The highlights are.

1. Installed a new pump shoe, Rebuilt and installed the driveline and pump with some mild grinding to remove the casting flaws.
2. Went through all of the electrics
3. Installed all of the wires and hoses and repaired or rebuilt anything that was bad or just hack work (that was just about everything, this was a poop show when I got it)
4. Made new bushings for the pole and installed.
5. Finished and installed the engine.

Now, I just ordered the last of the parts from JetManiac. The only thing left to get is a battery and a set of mats and chin pad from Jettrim. Here are a few more pics. I will get out the good camera after this weekends work and post some good pics.

You’re not planning on running 760 ignition are you?

For now, it has the 760 ignition in it. Everything in the engine is stock less some ProX pistons. I know that it isn't optimal but, it was lingering because of all of the BS to go to the other ignition. I would rather get it in the water this summer rather than procrastinate another year.
