Every rider should know how wide they need the bottom to be and where they want the center of gravity. Those are the basic dimensions that determine if the hull will fit the rider. Then figure how much lateral grip and/or dead rise you want for the way you like the ski to turn.
That's like saying every rider should know the difference between rich or lean or loose and tight with a pump. Most people get confused on that and you think they can pinpoint what they want in a hull. How many skis have you seen where the handpole and foothold positioning is so out of wack? There's plenty of really good skis out there to already pick from

Technical details and riders seldom go together. All you can get through is a few buzz words at best. I think everyone has ridden a Superjet at some point so that ski is probably the best universal data point to compare others to. The rich/lean aspect is very important because its so easy to stick a piston on our large engines. Anyone can master carb tuning safely by practicing on a leaf blower or model airplane. All pumps work about the same as long as they are fed a good stream of clean water. The best pumps work better when air is in the inlet or pressure is low. Footholds and pole length are very rider and trick specific. Change either of these and they're out of whack., which for me seems like most of the time.

@kevbo i get what youre saying completely but its not like we can head to the local dealer ship to get meaaured out and test ride multiple hulls made by various companies.

You can get a suite tailored or fitted for a mtn bike but as far as this goes youre left hoping people are ok with letting you try their skis.

Ive been at this 11 years now, which is chump change to a lot of you guys, but for me a superjet is all i really want. I cant imagine giving up the farm for a 20k+ freestyle ski only to realuze i didnt like it.

We have built a knowledge bank of carb specs but those can never take the place of actual mixture tuming. Nobody has posted measurements of their hull bottom and pole length. At least i never found any. I am happy to start one but don't think anyone would use it.

Xfr is STILL the best hull

701 it will shred surf. And can flat water flip. And Rec ride all day. Same ride plate.

Someone post pictures of a broken xfr. Or a broken glass rickter at all for that matter. I've only seen a couple

Hi, you ride the XFR? What setup?
I looking for to buy now after SJ the XFR, but still thinking about the setup and engine...
I'm mainly asking for experices, please. Thanks

I know this thread is old but my .02 is that people just need to realize and accept that volume is hugely important when it comes to cost. Everything in this industry is VERY low volume and in a lot of cases hand built, thus you will pay extra for it. Many do not realize that setting up for tooling for just about any part is enormously expensive otherwise you would see, for example, trim nozzle setups, engines, etc. made of cast materials instead of a massive chunk of billet. So for hulls, anything other than OEM is hand built because there is zero volume available to justify it any other way.

Really this is why I do one off whacky builds, I want things like I want them, if you can't have what you want then what's the point of it all, I don't surf ride, I don't care about backflips and barrel rolls, my concerns are reliability and being easy to repair if something breaks , it doesn't have to be a rocketship as I have found riding those to be too much work and not enough fun, it also it has to be able to be ridden wide open across the lake, I do fully realize my skis won't suit most peoples tastes but then that doesn't matter as long as it satisfies me because I am the one riding them.
